Jack Abernathy was known as "Catch 'em Alive", back in the early 1900's. He would chase down wolves, jump on their backs and wrestle them down. He is from Frederick, OK. Teddy Roosevelt came out to visit him. He also had 2 little boys that rode from Frederick to Santa Fe when they were 9 and 6 years old..alone!
Then they rode horseback to New York to meet Roosevelt coming back from an African safari. Once they got there, they were given a car to drive home in..again, they were under the age of 10. It apparently was a media circus all the way there and back.
It's a great read. I just found out about them. What a cool Oklahoma story. Someone should make it into a movie or something something.
