So Wal-Mart unveiled a new logo, and it is white lettering on a burnt orange background. That's just wrong.

Remember when Wal-Mart's claim to fame was that they were committed to Made in the USA? It's probably impossible to run a retail operation like that nowadays. The only thing the US really produces anymore is debt.

The funny thing about that is GSD&M lost the Wal-Mart contract a couple of years ago after holding it for 20 years, they are based here in Austin. They never went burnt orange while they had the contract but soon after the contract leaves Austin, they change.

If you have ever spent time in Asia, you will understand this perfectly:

The new logo is designed after teh "Hello Kitty" world that is marketing in Asia. Everything over there has a "cartoon" logo, designed after the Sanrio style so popular with Asians, young and old. The HUGE popularity of these characters derives from the fact that individuals in Asia, while each is a different person and personality, all have the same basic features...black hair...close to the same stature, etc. The Sanrio avatars and logos reflect wild individualism and stand out more than "pitchmen/women".

Walmarts new logo, font and coloring is a reflection of this and will be even more successful 'over there'.
