The draft is 6 p.m. tonight (Oklahoma time) on ESPN.

Oklahoma Sooners unite behind Longar Longar's NBA dream! For the four pokies on the board, Marcus Dove is about the same shot at getting drafted as Longar.

For those of you just tuning in to these NBA discussions, you may be a Sonics fan and not know it yet. However, Stern is not going to do anything to jeopardize the trial outcome...

NewsOK: Stern to announce Sonics pick as "Seattle Supersonics." (http://www.newsok.com/article/3262230/)

Score one for the space needle. Ah well, we all know where they'll end up... in this year or the next ;) The Sonics have two first rounders (No.4 and 24) and four second rounders, the most pick of any team in the draft. That may change later today with expected trades.

For those of you who are holdover Hornets fans from the NOKC Hornets days, this day might be kind of a bore:

WWLT (Louisiana): Hornets going to trade pick for cash. (http://www.wwltv.com/sports/hornets/stories/wwl062508bhhornetstrade.3b4ede9c.html)

Now, if they had been in OKC and Nawlins, perhaps their attendance would have been high enough that they could afford to keep the pick, but as it stands, looks like Shinn needs to make up for lost revenue

For those of you who are just fans of sports drafts, here are some resources for you:

ESPN: Heat's No. 2 pick up for grabs by at least three teams (http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008/insider/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=Draftnotes-080624&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fnba %2fdraft2008%2finsider%2fcolumns%2fstory%3fcolumni st%3dford_chad%26page%3dDraftnotes-080624)

ESPN's latest Mock Draft (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=MockDraft-080623)

Should be an eventful draft evening. Go.... teams and players related to Oklahoma :D

In truth, some White Sox fans do remind me of OSU fans in that they would rather see the Cubs fail than the White Sox succeed. Which reeks of Aggy.

Sorry Scott, I said SOME... :)

I know that as a Brewers fan (closet fan), I should hate the Cubbies, but I am indifferent, much like the indifference that causes the Brewers to be year-in year-out cellar dwellars.

As a lifelong Packers fan, I am indeed a Bear hater, but I feel slightly sorry for you guys when that Jay columnist trashes Rex and Co. (especially Rex). Guys who obviously never excelled at sports in their lives find it easy to criticize those who do. Girls? They just smile and try not to get the guys worked up too much (unless your name is Jenni Carlson).

I am a Bucks fan and expect a good pick somewhere in the draft, whether it be round 1 or 2. We have had some good picks over the years (although trading Dirk for "Tractor" Traylor still hurts to this day) and I expect a good one tonight, regardless where we end up through the trading process.

I am also a Sonics fan tonight, because I am happy for the state of Oklahoma getting a pro sports team (we all know its inevitable), and because I know Wisconsin really never merited one on the merits of today's standards for pro sports. We got ours out of inheritance :D

Bulls will be drafting Rose.
Sonics may trade down to No. 7, or up to No. 2
Bucks and NJ trade, NJ gets Chinese dude Yi Jianlian, Bucks get Jefferson

Unofficial drinking game:

Big 12 Extreme Rules edition:

1. Every time a Big 12 player gets drafted, take a drink.
2. Every time they mention Oklahoma City (I've heard it twice already in the predraft show!) take two drinks. If they try to be cute and extend it to O-K-C, take three.

These two rules alone will get you drunk by 7. However, for the sake of our Okie ties...

3. Take a longer, longer drink and finish your beer when Longar Longar gets drafted.

4. Take three drinks for Marcus Dove, one for each time a "football school" OU basketball team beat a "basketball school" OSU's basketball team this past season.

More TBA later :D

6/26/2008, 06:52 PM
Thank goodness - no Mayo for the Sonics.

1. Rose
2. Beasley
3. Mayo

First time three froshies taken in top three of the draft, apparently. Tune in now to hear STE-PHEN A. SMI-TH talk to O-J MAY-O.

well, that's quite a surprise. he is almost 6'4 so he's bigger than i thought, and he's only a sophomore. they must have seen something they really liked in him. we lacked defenders last year and he's a lock down guy so maybe it's a good pick, just unexpected.

@ 24 we got Serge Ibaka 6'10 230lbs

http://www.nbadraft.net/images/players/small/serge-ibaka-hd.jpg

Strengths: A tremendous athlete blessed with insane length and leaping ability ... Conjures up memories of Shawn Kemp. Ibaka reportedly had a higher vertical than any of the players drafted in the 2007 draft. Which is extremely unusual for a taller player ... Despite his immense physical gifts, Ibaka hustles at all times and works hard on his game showing a lot of improvement in a short time ... He's currently playing in Spain for L'Hospitalet ... Has solid footwork in the post, and an improving turn around jumper ... He can even extend out to the 3 pt line and knock down shots on occaision ... Has the tools to become a first round pick in the next year, as he is not far from having an NBA ready body, and plays hard ... He's relentless on the boards and his length and athleticism makes him a formidable shot blocker ... Has good touch on his shot, and solid mechanics, he just needs to become more comfortable with his offensive game so it becomes second nature ...

Weaknesses: Coming from the Congo, his age may come into question ... He appears to be young and at least close to his listed age so it likely won't be to big a deterrant, but teams are normally wary of the age of young African players who seem "too good to be true". But unlike some other recent African draft picks who did not play NCAA ball (DeSagana Diop, Malick Badiane, Saer Sene) Ibaka is already showing offensive abilities ... Ibaka also needs to work hard on his skills, while he shows nice potential with his ball skills and post moves, they are far from refined ... Learning a few moves that he can consistently go to in the post will greatly improve his offesnive abilities ... Needs to add some muscle to his frame. Right now, he's too lean and will get pushed around under the basket ... But he's still very young, and appears to be able to put weight on without any problems ... At the adidas Global camp in New Orleans, Ibaka suffered with cramps, so staying hydrated and improving on his stamina are important ...

Seems a little "ify" but what do I know...maybe they are looking for a guy who will bloom in about two years...

Civicus_Sooner
6/26/2008, 09:41 PM
I don't know if he bulks up a little he could be a decent center and apparently has three point range. If he's anything like Kemp, he's a steal @ 24

We traded our next two picks for DJ White.

Civicus_Sooner
6/26/2008, 09:45 PM
DJ White 6'8 Power Forward from Alabama.

http://www.nbadraft.net/images/players/small/dj-white-hd.jpeg

Strengths: Skilled post player with a big motor and good feel for the game ... Plays with great energy ... Explosive athlete, loves dunking on players ... His long arms make him an excellent rebounder ... Has an adept post game using pump fakes and sound footwork to create shots. His touch is solid around the basket and out to 12 feet ... A quick leaper with good reflexes making him a formidable shot blocker at the PF position (2.2 blocks per game as a freshman) ... Has a huge wingspan, somewhere close to 7-feet which helps make up for his lack of height for the PF position ... Quick feet around the basket ...

Weaknesses: He's undersized for the power forward position at around 6-7.5 with shoes ... Has to prove he can stay healthy after missing a full season after breaking his left foot at two different points of the season ... Should focus on expanding his range; adding a consistent 15-18 foot shot ...

Yes but we just picked for the team we traded with.

I like what they are doing, we have Westbrook running the point, Durant playing the Shooting guard, Green at the three, DJ White at the 4 and Serge Ibaka at Center. We'll be young but very tall and athletic. We may have the tallest line up in the NBA.

I was just looking ahead and seeing that this team could have Durant, Green, and Rose. It was a big dissapointment to see us fall to 4 and then even more dissapointing to see that we ended up with Westbrook. Westbrook could be a pretty good player but I watched him play at UCLA and he was lucky to have been the 3rd best player on that team. Westbrook could be a good pick, but he just isn't very exciting for a top 5 pick.

I've seen him too. He was the best defensive player on the team. Actually the DPY for the PAC 10. He averaged like 5 assists per game. That's what we need. A defensive player that can dish the rock to the scorers that are on the team. That's exactly what we needed.

Say we get the Sonics this year. Have a decent season but fall short of the playoffs and we are in the lottery again next year. Blake has the season we all want him to have, say 20 and 15 a game. Do you think we get the #1 pick in '09? I say if that happens then the NBA draft is fixed, but at that point I would not care.
