View Full Version : Vacation Question?

If you had a budget of $3k (not including spending $) where would you go?

I'm looking to take a trip definitely the beach and I am looking for suggestions. I have never been to Hawaii, but it doesn't look like the water compares to the Caribbean.

I'm looking to go to a new place. I have been to Cozumel, Cancun, Turks & Caicos, Bahamas, Key West, Miami. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No, it would be for two people. When I say $3k it could be all the way up to $3,900, I just hate to drop more than $3k for a vacation.

Virgin Islands may be something to look into.

Hawaii is EXPENSIVE and I'd only go there for the golf myself. Personally, I'd go somewhere out west and keep my $$$ in the good ole USA.

It's all inclusive too. All food and beverages included. Of course, after a drink or two you'll be unconscious and won't be eating much.:D

If you ever have the opportunity I would HIGHLY recommend the Turkish Riviera. Fly in to Antalya, Turkey. Book an all-inclusive 5-star and enjoy the Mediterranean. I stayed here ( http://www.tury.ru/hotels/6092.html )for a week last month and it was amazing. The bummer part about trying to pull off this vacation is the long flight / jet lag and the high airfare.

You call that thing in Galveston a beach ? ;)

Cozumel, Punta Cana (dominican rebublic), Turks & Caicos, Mayan Riviera in Mexico. Heck, throw a dart at a map of the caribbean and you're likely to land on an AI resort you can book for under $3.9k. Research on Tripadvisor.com.

Jamaica if getting accosted alot is your thing

I never had any problems in Jamaica. Although the two times we went we mainly stayed in the hotel, but when we went outside of the hotel it wasn't horrible. Just don't go to the market. Our hotel frowned upon giving tips to the staff. It was very nice!

I wouldn't go to the Philippines until the typhoon season is over.

If you book something in the Caribbean, shouldn't hurricane season also be a consideration?

The best time to go to tropical resorts is in winter.

I just got back and spent a few days at the South Seas resort on Captiva island, FL.

www.southseas.com

Great day cruises, beautiful beaches (although it is gulf-side, so you don't get the amazing color in the water). Good food there and on the mainland. Just don't get pizza from the resort, that was the only mistake we made.

It's very resort-y, so if that's what you're looking for, it's perfect. If you're wanting something more private and/or relaxed, you can rent a home on the island for the week. That way could shoot your budget if you're not careful.

3rd Costa Rica or Panama.

Just got back fom the Cayman Islands. Nice but kinda pricey.

If you go U.S. Virgin Islands, stay off of St. Croix. -P.O.S.

Belize or an hour south of Cancun? Jamaica-meh. The Dominican I heard is cool. Aruba- go on a treasure hunt!

3K won't get ya very far right now, unless you find some really good airfare. Just got back from Lan'i in Hawaii, and it was very nice. 2 really nice Four Seasons hotels there.

$3k can get you places if you are smart with it. im going to oktoberfest and russia in october for a roundtrip airfare under 1k. about 2000-2500 spending money should make it a good time.

I just returned from Taiwan, $838.00 for two tix. Your point is well-taken tho...shopping is a must. Also, the flight can be broken up with day-trip lay-overs in Tokyo and Bangkok.

3K isn't much for the entire trip, but the spending $$ was excluded, no?

Correct. I'm just saying $3k to get there & the room. I never thought about Fiji, Maldives or Taiwan. We may look at going somewhere really different this time.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

For your research:

Taiwan -

Same latitude as Hawai'i, black sand beaches, suite downtown Taipei real nice with S'bucks two doors down: $58.00 per night. Look at photos, show me a spek o' litter... People friendliest I have ever met (they freakin LOVE Amis) and I have been around the world. Easy to get around with subways and taxis, car rental no prob to get to ocean, drive on right - signage in English. Was there 5 days and saw less than 100 Westerners, mostly Euros. No sleaze, great food/markets. Drawbacks: Black sand beaches (sand gets hot), not a lot of "resorts", $838.00 flights mentioned were from SFO not OKC...I spent several days in NorCal during trip. Humid. (hey, it's tropical!)

Sounds like you found a great deal on a flight. What airline?

I had a business trip to Luxembourg back in April and I found a $450.00 round trip ticket on Kayak. Hopefully those good deals aren't going away with $150.00 oil.

Oh, and don't go anywhere that uses the british pound if you can avoid it.

cheapest international flight i ever found was $458 r/t from okc to Paris on NWA in 2006. now, im having a hard time finding anything under $458 for one leg of the trip.
