Has anyone been there? My niece wants hibachi and I don't want to drive all the way back to the north side tonight.

Never been there, but Sake (the restaurant off of Main) is pretty good.

Is Yamato off I-35 where Tast of China buffet used to be? Been wanting to try it, but didn't know if it was hibachi like Sake.

Would Sake be a good place to take a 9 year old? Would you compare it to Shogun in terms of quality?

There's a Yamato on NW Expressway by the way. It was pretty tasty.

I'd say they are about equal.

Well that's what we will do then since you guys are rating it well.

It might be a little behind Shogun, but very comparable.

Really?? A previous thread on this subject indicated Sake was way below Shogun in terms of quality. I'm curious about this too.

We were in town a couple of weeks ago and wanted to try this place and it looked like it had been closed down for a few months. It was definitely not open on the Sat/Sun night we went by there. We figured it must've gone out of business.

Well we've been to the Yamato on NW Expy. If the one in Norman is open, I may just take her there.

Then I'm kicking her *** in mini-golf at Hey Day or Andy Alligator's.

They seemed about the same to me. I'm not one of the resident dining experts, though.

Ok, I called the number for Yamato and there was no answer. So. . .Sake it is.

As an aside, I'm glad my niece has a taste for food other than McD's or Cici's. She said she wanted either Japanese food or catfish for dinner.

Okay maybe this is another thread but:

Andy Alligators mini-golf = fun but nothing special, not too challenging, food there is meh

Heyday = very cool on first glance but some of those holes are ridiculously hard, and not in a fun way. Mini-golf should be fun even if it is challenging. Food (pizza) is pretty dang good

Well Heyday is evidently a professionally designed course. Plus they got teh rock climbing.

The PQ clan should meet us there so I can school you too. ;)

Not even close, but it is hibachi -- if you don't want to drive.

Is hibachi like teppanyaki?

Sooner Born Sooner Bred

We made it as far as Hey Day's Pizza. We were having so much fun in the arcade there and playing bumper cars and go carts at Andy's that we never made it to eat teh hibachi.

So thanks a whole lot for nothing! ;)

Drove by Yamato in Norman yesterday on the way to Sam's. It looks like they are still renovating it.

On a side note, the Souper Salad in Norman is not quite so super these days.

I've eaten at Souper Salad twice and found lots of hair in my food both. times. I. ate. there. I grudgingly entered that feeding trough the 2nd time, ONLY because my dad wanted to. And yep.. hair in the soup, HAIR in the SALAD. There's nothing worse than pulling a big 'ole 2-foot long strand of someone else's hair out of your mouth just so you can gag down the rest of that bite and slam a watered-down iced tea, post-haste. I vowed ...never again! 'Souper Salader Hair' is more like it :( :les:

On another note, I took my 4-yo to Musashi on saturday. It compares fairly well to Shogun. Nicer atmosphere, little more expensive, possibly better meat -- i'll have to go a few more times for a final decision ;) -- smaller portions. The chefs were really entertaining! We had a great time.

Sooner Born Sooner Bred

Musashi is the best I think. Did they have a kid menu? That's the only reason I've never taken my niece because I didn't think so.

When it comes to hair in food, the longer the hair, the better, IMO.

Souper Salad is the suck.

Musashi's isn't as good as Shogun (food wise), but the atmosphere and location win.

So, how long does this building/restaurant have to sit there, appearing to be completed? According to this article, which was written last November, it was supposed to be ready to go in January:

i wasn't too tempted to try the Kobe once I saw the price. They're awfully proud of their psuedo-Kobe beef

Kobe beef in the U.S. isn't nearly the same as "the real" Kobe beef in Japan. At least from what I've heard.

Musashi's = suck. It's not even real Japanese anymore; it's fusion.
