I know there are a lot of really good premium tequilas out there, but I have yet to find anything that's as good as Sauza Gold.

What say you?

- I'm a fan of Tres Generaciones. The silver usually.

- Cazadores is teh win. (Funky cheap lookin' bottle with a yellow plastic cap and a deer head on the label.)

Or the reposado. I don't bother with anejo tequilas because all I use tequila for is margaritas and drunken chicken recipes. If I'm drinking booze straight it's going to be scotch, bourbon, or rum.

I don't even keep vodka in the house.

It totally depends on what you're looking for...

- As a mix, or as part of a REALLY good shot with training wheels... Sauza brand Hornitos.
- The mentions of Patron are also quite noteworthy, but Hornitos is usually a little lighter on the wallet, and it's just as good, not to mention easier to pour and measure correctly.
- For GOOD tequila, in which price is no object, I recommend Jose Cuervo Reserva de Familia. A bottle can run you between $90-$120, but I promise that, as long as you don't b*tch out and take training wheels with the shots... (Chill the bottle in the freezer first, and then put your shot glasses in there before each serving as well.) you will know EXACTLY where the extra money was spent.

- Herradura, Don Julio, Tres Generaciones, and Cabo Wabo are also decent "filler" tequilas for margaritas, etc... Good luck.

...and before I get accused of making "blanket statements," ask around the board about my margarita recipe... :D

Chinaco, Milagro or Patron silver for sipping.

Herradura or Conmemorativo for ritas are just fine.

if you can afford it, go for the extra aged patron, but it's about $200 for a 750

Tequila is usually bottled in one of five categories:[4]

blanco ("white") or plata ("silver") – white spirit, un-aged and bottled or stored immediately after distillation, or aged less than two months in oak barrels;[8]
oro ("gold") – un-aged "blanco" tequila, blended with rested or aged tequilas, and often with caramel coloring, sugar-based syrup, glycerin, and/or oak extract added so as to resemble aged tequila;
reposado ("rested") – aged a minimum of two months, but less than a year in oak barrels;
añejo ("aged" or "vintage") – aged a minimum of one year, but less than 3 years in oak barrels;
extra añejo ("extra aged" or "ultra aged") – aged a minimum of three years in oak barrels. This category was established in March 2006.

Great bottle, but usually when a company resorts to crazy marketing ploys like that, it's because of the (lack of) quality of the product itself. Whether or not that's the case with this stuff...??? I'm not one to say...

A couple of years back, I was watching Dateline NBC and they were putting the Tequila and Vodka snobs up to taste test. Each person had a perferred brand. Most of the folks couldn't taste the difference between the good stuff and the cheap stuff. I'm not saying you folks couldn't taste the diff though. ;)

I've had all sorts of different types, but tequila snobs are idiots. The drink was never meant to taste "refined" or "pure". It was made in boots and cantines and tasted like ***. Buy cheap, mix hard, and get drunk.

If you want a pure experience, go for scotch or bourbon.

OU4LIFE
6/17/2008, 11:09 AM
not sure I could taste the difference in most high-end ones, but the Casa Blanca is really a different taste, almost has a vanilla aftertaste, so you'd notice if it was something else.

or maybe just stupid gringos

can it be a hard drink? yes,

but it's also consumed as a sipping drink in mexico, you know, where it originated

Bacanora.

Go to a good Mexican wedding sometime down in Mexico, Arizona, and maybe New Mexico. It's just homemade tequila (olevet juice made by messicans instead of PWT), usually in a clay/stone jug that gets passed around by the men (cause ladies don't drink that ****). By far the smoothest tequila I've ever drank. The one and only time I've done karaoke? Bacanora. The one and only time I've danced on a table? Bacanora. The last time I knocked some dumbass smooth the **** out? You guessed it, Bacanora.

BTW, anybody that would spend $200 for something that is only 1-3 years old is a moron.
