I would go with Texas in the inaugural season (1996) finishing with an overall 8-5 record but did prevent Nebraska from a potential 3peat national title. Hell, it has to be the worst considering Boo Blake defeated ole Mackovic.

Colorado in 2001 wasn't that great.

What about that K State squad that lost to Marshall at home.

2001 colorado was the 4th best team in the big 12 that year. oregon fans are still yapping about how big of a win it was. i have to remind them that same colorado team lost to fresno state that year, and got beat by texas by 34 points, and was only in the fiesta thanks to about 7 texas turnovers.

2001 Colorado lost of CSU like the first game of the season, then lost to Texas, but won out to win the Big 12, including beating Texas in the rematch, and totally embarrassing Nebraska

they went on to be #3 in BCS and missing the MNC game by .05 or something. they did lose to Oregon, but Oregon probably should have been the team getting leveled by Miami and instead Nebraska that year

i'm thinking more like '96 Texas, '98 aTm or maybe KSU in '03.

the Mildcats did lose to Marshall, but they were without their starting QB for at least 2 of the 3 games they lost in the regular season

As much as I hate the puffs, watching them beat Chrissy and the whorns for the championship was nice. Saxet fans need constant reminding that they are not better than the rest of the world. The only thing that is really bigger in the state of Texas are orange bloods' egos.

Shall we just name them off so we can vote hard and vote often?

96- Unranked Texas over #3 Nebbish.
97- #2 Neb over #14 A&M
98- #10 A&M over #2 KSU
99- #2 Neb over #12 Tex
00- #1 OU over #8 KSU
01- #9 Colorado over #3 Tex
02- #8 OU over #12 CU
03- #15 KSU over #1 OU
04- #2 OU over unranked CU
05- #2 Tex over unranked CU
06- #8 OU over #19 Neb
07- #9 OU over #1 Mizzou

The lowest AP poll ranked champions were unracked Texas in 1996 and #15 KSU in 2003. Because KSU had tried and failed so much to win the championship, they should be given a pass away from "worst ever" status. Shall we just give Texas our seal of disapproval like usual and declare them, the 1996 Big 12 Champions, the worst conference champion in Big 12 football history? :D

I'm good with that.

it might be more fun to debate who the worst Big 12 North/South champion was rather than the worst overall champion.

With that in mind, we have our champions, and we have these horrendous championship game losers:

96- Big 12 North's #3 Nebraska
97- Big 12 South's #14 A&M
98- Big 12 North's #2 KSU
99- Big 12 South's #12 Tex
00- Big 12 North's #8 KSU
01- Big 12 South's #3 Tex
02- Big 12 North's #12 CU
03- Big 12 South's #1 OU
04- Big 12 North's unranked CU
05- Big 12 North's unranked CU
06- Big 12 North's #19 Neb
07- Big 12 North's #1 Mizzou

I nominate 2004 and 2005's Big 12 North champions... the Colorado Buffaloes. Is it worse to lose to undefeated Oklahoma or undefeated Texas? Is it worse to lose 70-3 or 42-3? Which team was worse? Which team absolutely DID NOT BELONG in the title game and gives way to the argument against conference championship games?

Any team that wasn't OU.

well the 04 Buffs were there only because the Iowa State kicker blew a chip-shot FG, and then the Cyclones lost to Mizzou in OT at HOME. And because Mason Crosby kicked like a 98-yd FG to beat ISU earlier in the year. They both went 4-4 in conference. At least Colorado laid the smack down on UTEP in their bowl game.

in 05, all Iowa State needed to do was win for the right to get killed by Vince and his "gang". But they blew a lead late at Kansas and lost in OT. Colorado, despite losing to Cally and Nebbish 30-3 at HOME, backed into the CC game again, and put up a fight for 3 seconds. The Buffs showed just as much resolve in their bowl game, losing to perennial underachiever Clemson.

so who's worse? 4-4 team, but wins bowl game? or 5-3 team that ended the year on a 5-game losing streak?
