People who over(mis)use the quote "The first thing we do is kill all the lawyers," attributing the quote to Shakespeare.

Yes, Shakespeare did write this line (or something almost exacly like it, I don't have a copy of Othello handy to check the exact syntax.)

The line was written for Iago, one of the most dastardly and evil characters in Shakespeare's entire canon. It's not as if Shakespeare was personally endorsing this view.

OK, glad I got that off my chest.

At least your pet peeve doesn't have anything to do with bodily fluids in the shower.

So are you saying it might not be correct to attribute "Eat the rich" to Steven Tyler? I might have to change my e-mail sig....

I know one in OKC that could use a good killin'.

Or at least a severe beat-down.

As long as it doesn't switch to Investment Bankers and/or people with 1 year of law schooling, I'm not real concerned with it.

that's such a lame quote.

Besides, the first thing we should do is kill all of the politicians :D

another one like that is Sallust's (paraphrase): "Few men desire freedom, the greater part desire just masters". this quote you often see with different sects of the Libertarian Party/movement. But, as with Iago in context, Sallust was a bit of a crony for Caesar and was writing to prop up the consolidation of the Caesarian party at the expense of the Republic. it's more an endorsement of the "just master" than freedom. so, the libertarians have it backwards.

Unfortunately, that is not true. If it were, the laws would be written much better.

Things are neither good nor bad; 'tis the thinking which makes them so.

I stumbled across this one from Einstein the other day:

“We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

Ok, you lost me when you said that Shakespeare owned a cannon. You would think that would show up in more of his plays.

CEO's...
Politicians...

and THEN lawyers. The quote is way out of date.

We need to describe more people as "Dastardly". If there was one poster you would describe as "dastardly" on this board, who would it be?

My vote goes for Homey. All those history threads trying to brainwash us... ;)

Mine is:

Last one in, a rotten egg, art.

That may be paraphrasing.

Or something.

I can't think of anybody dastardly. Bastardly on the other hand....
