I was for it until my cousin got sent there. When he came back, he reported what a joke it was - they knew the whole time where the terrorists/insurgents were, but weren't allowed to go kill them off...unless the terrorists/insurgents shot first.

This is truly a war where bureaucrats, particularly those with law degrees, have completely put our forces in the ground in harms way.

Don't fire until fired upon...

...plus, if they did end up firing their weapon, they had to make a complete written report on the incident telling why they fired their weapon.

When he told me all of that, I gave up on it. If we're not going to win the damn thing, we need to pull out.

This ends well. Against it for a myriad of reasons.

Absent yellowcake, aluminum tubes, and rape rooms...

It seemed like a good idea at the time until the Bush admin f'd it all up.

Sheet, we're not even taking their oil for the trouble.

What good is invading a sovereign middle east nation, getting 4000+ troops killed, if you can't take their oil????

Unless we're willing to turn the entire country against us, you've got to do stuff like that. That's why sending the military in to do "nation building" is not a good idea. They're making strides, but they're still primarily a "break stuff and kill things" organization. Remember during the 2000 campaign when Bush said he was against nation building? Good times.

Wow, the cut-and-run tally is over 70% right now. I'm amazed.

Which means the stay and get our troops killed for no useful purpose tally is less than 30%.:)

Hey, you two undecideds, pick a side already. Are you with us or against us? Love it or leave it!

If I really wanted to start some ****, I would have made the votes public. However, I'm not that evil and was wanting a civil debate on the issue w/o anyone getting there panties in a wad.

There is absolutely no way in Austin that a thread on the Iraq war will be civil. The other 4,587 threads on the topic have proven that. :D

I didn't vote, but on the perchance that this has become more about securing a supply of oil. Then wouldn't this be another step that this country has taken to secure it's position on imperialism on the backs of the people of this nation? (from slaughtering and herding native americans to slavery to confiscating property of persons of japanese descent to sweat shopping children to using the military potentially for personal gain and profit)

not saying it's my view, but just kinda throwing it out there.
