I am seeing more and more businesses with signs saying that they do not take the Discover card anymore.

Of course, I don't have a Discover card, so I probably shouldn't care. But I'm curious, so I need to know what problems they have.

I need to know now.

They probably charge the merchants a higher discount rate and transaction fee than Visa/MasterCard.

Just a guess.

I thought Discover just recently raised the % they charged merchants

Because there's such a demand for Discover cards?

All you need is a Visa and a MasterCard and you're golden anywhere in the world.

99.999% correct, but there are a few places that only take one or the other.

Yeah, I remember when Visa highlighted businesses that only took their card in their commercials.

When they started showing a sushi kiosk at some west coast ballpark, I think it lost its effectiveness.

The first few were correct, Discover has always charged merchants a higher transaction fee

It nearly impossible to use my american express any more. I really only use it for business, but it still sucks because I love the rewards.
