I see nothing wrong with this, and I suppose most folks would enjoy the 3 day weekend being a more permanent event.

I'd be more than happy to work the 4 Tens versus the 5 Eights Then again in my construction days we were obliged to work 7 Twelves so short work weeks seem quite nice.
What do ya'll think?

we work 8 9's and 1 8 hour day every 2 weeks and have every other friday off..i like that too.

4 10s would be awesome. The weekend would be so much more useful for taking short trips. This would also potentially give you some 4-day weekends built-in.

Yeah, I can see where that would be pretty cool.

I think four 10-hour days is a great idea. Unfortunately, people are so resistant to change that it will take years to fully implement if it ever happens at all. And because of the field I work in it will most likely never happen for me.

As far as my commute goes, I calculated yesterday it would only take me 30 minutes to get to work if I rode a bicycle. So I'm thinking that may be my solution.

The only reason most of the people in my office couldn't telecomute 2 or 3 days a week is management resistance.

I should just diagnose people over the internet, it's what I do here for free anyway. :)

Funny this thread came about.
Today is my first Friday off on my new schedule of 4/10's. I'm excited about the 3 day weekend. I only go into work a half hour earlier than my normal routine and instead of an hour lunch, I take half hour. Oddly enough only waking up 30 minutes earlier in the a.m. has been hard to adjust to this week. But I'll get used to it and I'll love having Fridays off.

Big fan of 4/10s. People with kids in daycare tend to hate them, though.

I have worked 5 eights awek and the 4 ten hour day shift,I prefer the eights. The last two hours makes for more fatigue and I had no energy for activity or family after a 10 hour day.The way I aiways said it was that eight hour days each day ended quickly but the week was longer.Conversely on ten hour shift each day took forever but the week was over quicker. If you have to work OT on the end of a ten hour day it is a B!TCH.

i'd be all for it, but it wouldn't have much effect on service industries particularly those oriented towards entertainment/leisure since people would have an extra "weekend" day to go the movies or drop some coin at the fancy restaurant.

i suppose it help them financially, but the work force in those industries would be largely unaffected.

my version of it was in professional kitchens i always preferred to work a couple doubles and take the extra day off....but, if you are 'running thangs' you don't really ever leave.

You've got to have the whole package to be a 10. Would you still consider her a 10 if she had this face?

I work four tens a week. Of course, I also have to work that fifth ten as well. And sometimes a sixth.

Thank goodness for telecommuting. :)

when i was a sous-chef i'd generally work 11 hours a day, 5 days a week....and about 6 on another. the 6 hour day was referred to by one of my chef's as "having a half a day off". in his mind, i had 1.5 days off.

all for a whopping $2700 a month.

While I was going to OU I used to load trucks at this company called Malone's Foods in Norman. That was like 1992-1996. We used to work Sunday thru Wednesday but of course we usually pulled in 48 hr work weeks. It was a pretty cool set-up and I figure that if I would have been working a normal work week, I would have never of had the chance to meet Mrs. r5 on campus corner one Friday nite. We went in at 4pm and got off around 1am except on Sunday in which we went in at 2pm and got outta there most times by midnite.

We're getting ready to offer 4 10s and telecommuting for jobs where it will work out.

That's a huge leap forward for our management.

4 8's.

Anything over 32 hours per week up to 48 hours is time and one half.

Over 48...dOUble time!

City of Detroit just approved switching to 4 day work weeks for city employees, and now the county I live in is in the process of switching to 4 day work weeks as well. Conceptually it looks like they'll both be switching to 4 10hr days to "save on gas and milage". Which just means that everyone will waste more gas on that extra day off ;)

That's a huge leap forward for our management. We're discussing the option of 4 9's and an 8 one week and 4 9's and an off Friday the next week.
