Lots of speculation that GM is just going to let it go the way of Isuzu passenger vehicles after a 60% sales drop.

That's what I hear as well.

I have been thinking about how poor the sales must be at the Hummer dealerships lately.

I still see a lot of them, someone is/was buying them (besides Boarder). :)

I saw a commercial for the H3 pimping like 19 MPG highway. Instead of making me think that it was possibly a reasonable vehicle, it made me think of how horrid the H2 mileage must be.

As long as there is a lottery and insurance claims from tornado damage, there will be a market for Hummers.

It must be people that work for oil companies. I've seen people hit the $75 transaction limit twice while trying to fill those things up. It would be one thing if that was enough gas to last you all month, but they're probably doing that on a weekly basis.

The best Hummer commercial in the world:

For those of you that aren't football fanatics, that is former Ole Miss head football Coach Ed Orgeron. For those of you that thought the "Coach O" song was a huge exaggeration, now you know that it wasn't at all :D

I don't think it will be a huge loss if we lose Hummer.

The best Hummer commercial in the world:

My favorite was the one with the tagline "Restore Your Manhood". It didn't take the Hummer PR braintrust long to realize that calling out your customers for having weenis issues was a bad idea, so they changed it after a couple of weeks.

This is the one you're referring to - which they quickly changed to (as this version shows) "Restore the Balance."

That's the one. There was one with a woman, too. I don't remember the tagline for that one, but it wasn't "Restore Your Manhood".

Last month, according to the new sales numbers released on Tuesday, the Toyota Corolla and Camry and the Honda Civic and Accord all surged past the F-series. It was the first month since December 1992 that a car — not a truck — was the country’s top-selling vehicle.

The tank is not any bigger than a Suburban or Tahoe. They get around 12 Highway with stock tires and decent driving habits. Around 5-8 pulling a trailer and 9 or so city.

Boarder turned hippie and sold his H2 in 2007 for a 3/4 ton diesel. He then sold that in 2008 for an HHR. The H2, although fun to drive and great at four wheeling, is not missed whatsoever. Rumor was that they are developing a small block sized diesel to put in 1/2 tons, suvs, and H2s but who knows now. I stopped keeping up with them.

It was being associated with this sort of mentality that really prompted me to get rid of the H2:

that wasn't as bad as i was expecting...

i'd be surprised if the ditched the original, i'm sure there is still a market for those like there is for the Vette, or the Ford GT or something

the H2 is really just a 1500 series Chevy/GM truck frame with more luxury junk in it, right?

Yep, and the H3 rides on the same platform as the Colorado and Canyon.

No, it's not. It uses several components but is all its own. If anything it's closer to a 2500 chassis.

The original H1 is already gone. Wouldn't surprise me to see the H2 gone. But, if they still produce Lamborghinis and stuff that hardly anyone can buy why not an H2? It's going to become a super small niche vehicle.

i'm kinda surprised they shelved the Geo line, the old Metros are getting crazy resale values now in some places

i guess i was thinking of the rear-end

A loaded up H2 stickers in the $60k range where a loaded Tahoe LTZ or Yukon Denali will be in the mid $50k range. Not really much difference. A loaded Escalade can run $70k sticker. The H2 just has that stigma.

Don't think I'm defending, I would not buy another one and am glad I don't have it anymore.

i generally feel the same way about most SUVs on price though, i guess

i was just expecting them to have a more advanced off-roadish frame when i first heard about them, the step between the H1 and H2 was rather large in that respect

Ah yes, the "I can afford the gas so it's none of your business" crowd. I guess they wouldn't mind if their neighbor left his hose running 24/7 during a drought, either.

If you want a GEO just go to your Suzuki dealer.

yermom
6/4/2008, 04:36 PM
most likely less than $2 at least

but yeah, the Aveo even doesn't touch the mileage the Metros got

i guess they think no one wants to go that minimal anymore... i'd imagine they are wrong at this point

I think that the large trucks and SUV's were the only vehicles making a profit for GM and they were selling the economy cars at just enough to cover their costs. If true, they're going to have to start raising the prices on the economy cars to stay afloat and start making a lot less of the big ones.

There will always be a demand for pick-ups, though.

yermom
6/4/2008, 05:52 PM
that and there is probably some regualation on having a certain amount of models below a certain MPG rating

My neighbor traded his F-250 with his friend who had a H2 about 1 1/2 - 2 years ago. With the diesel price being what they are now, he said it was one of the best things he ever did. Their other car is a H3, who says Americans are upset with the gas prices.

The gas mileage ratings now are figured differently than they did a few years ago, the EPA test has been changed to a more "real world" test to try and provide a more accurate reading.

I hit the $75.00 limit on my F-150 but a tank usually lasts me about two weeks. It is around $20.00 to fill up my motorcycle now.

$75 Limit?

I fill my F-350 with about $125-$130 of diesel fuel these days. And I wouldn't ever sell it. Of course I pay cash, so I'm not restricted by the commie limit crap at the pump.

yermom

i doubt that the Aveo closes the gap much though, it's got 60% more displacement and about twice the power of the old Metro

not to mention about 500 more lbs

Yes, but what do you drive 20 miles to work each day?

I'm still keeping my '95 dually and actually am putting a higher horsepower 383 in it just so I'll have it for towing. It will be horrible on gas but when I need it to tow, it's there. I just had bad feelings about driving the crew cab 4x4 50 miles per day. The HHR is excellent for that and for going places that it's harder to park.

I miss the diesel when I need to hook on a trailer, for sure, but the new engine in the '95 will help. And, it's paid for and has a sweet NASCAR tag on it.

And I tell you when they get the Volt at the dealers they won't be able to make them fast enough.
