So I think I may be getting a different car soon. Some of the models have xenon headlights and some don't. Is it that big of an upgrade to have xenon?

I've had both and liked the xenon better.

Is it just a bulb or a totally different headlight?

Different bulb and ballast. They really do help you see better/farther. They'll spoil you.

I would think it would be cheaper to buy them aftermarket then instead of buying the package on a new vehicle.

You can buy them aftermarket but most that I ve seen a fairly poor and can actually be worse than standard bulbs because it is usually a bulb/projector unit and a ballast. A generic HID kit is normally not a good thing.

i've never seen them as an option, just as standard equipment on some models so i'm not really sure how the prices compare there either

I think that as a factory-installed option it adds about a grand on the price. On the new C classes the option package that includes bi-xenons also includes 60/40 split rear seats and a power rear sunshade, and it adds about $1300 on to the price of the option package below it.

Power rear sunshade? You're kidding.

Nope. It's great. :D

I can't remember if the power rear sunshade refers to the shade that draws over the rear moonroof or if it's the doohickey to comes up over the rear window. Either way, it's a nice option.

If it's the moonroof, I can understand. But the rear window? If I can do without one of those down here, I think you'd probably survive up there without it. :)

Well, yeah, but I usually just attach a piece of cloth with a picture of a hand giving the bird to it so I can raise and lower it as needed.

(Not really, but I've thought about it a couple times. Or a Jolly Roger.)

I think it's more for people with small children and whatnot-I see those suction-cup sunshades people get for their kids all the time, and the power sunshade would work just right for the baby seat restraints in the back seat.

Say no more, I'm sold. :D
