This is kind of fun. Apologies if its been posted here before.

http://www.walkscore.com/

I got a 98. However, there seems to be some problems with how they score this.

The first 3 parks they listed are parking lots/garages.

The bookstore next door is a Polish bookstore (I've resisted the temptation to go in and ask for a joke book).

The grocery stores listed are bodegas or "gourmet" delis.

The nearest schools are Ace Computer Training, Printmaking Workshop, Gotham Writers Workshop, Refrigeration Institute, The Cool School (I think that's an Ivy), Ace Computer Training (must be more of those than Starbucks), New York International Beauty School, Xincon Technology School (Ace has competition!), and ABC Bartending School (definitely an Ivy).

However, the bar list is pretty close, if missing a few, and they missed the restaurant in my building whose pizza oven chimney burned out the apartment down the hall from me, so I'm sure it averages out.

eta: Heh. One of the coffee shops listed is Project Find, which I think is a shelter for runaways. I wonder what kind of scones they serve?[/QUOTE]

I got an 88, but for whatever reason CHARR (which is a restauranteur's association, not a restaurant) was listed as a place to eat.

I put in my home address and the map had the location off by a mile.

I put in my work address. They listed Music Theatre of Wichita as a movie theater, though the Old Town Warren is only a mile and a half away, and they listed an attorney's office as a school.

My place got a 29. Has anyone heard of Bob's Bar and Grill in Norman? It looks like it is in a horrible spot for business, but they list it here...

Got a 46 for my place in Overland Park but it should have been lower because the only way the QT and Winstead's are 0.3 miles away is if I climb a fence, walk through some woods and wade across a creek.

The place I had in Bellevue rated a 91 and the places it listed seemed pretty accurate.

It's no wonder I lost weight in Bellevue and have started gaining it back here.

The house I lived in a couple years ago in KCK rated a 75. Seems about right - I only drove to go to work, make big grocery runs and meet people in other parts of town.

40 for me too. For some reason it thinks there is a Home Depot at SW 119th and May.

86, but a lot of inaccuracies on the list as sounds common.

A 45 for us is mostly due to our proximity to brookside. We're just down the street from an elementary school, too.

Yeah, it has my closest bar as Jamba Juice. :(

I had a 54 but they missed two new strip malls that are two blocks away with multiple restaraunts and bars.

Holy **** dude, you live one block up from where I had a loft. We said that we were on 37th between Fashion and Crack!:D
Those were the days, we had a porno booth place across 8th from our place!
My house got a 51 which is kinda off as I live within .6 miles of two train lines that serve NYC. My town is small with little going on, but it has what I need.

Just for fun, I calculated the score for my parents. It was a 2. And that is probably in error, because it was for the Zion Lutheran School that closed for classes in 1976.

Heh. I put in a friend's address - she has 20 acres just outside Louisburg, KS. Got a big 0. The closest anything is a gas station 2 miles away.

38th between 8th and 9th. Probably one of the most uninteresting blocks in Manhattan. But the porno place is still there, along with several others. Maybe that should increase my walk score? :D

Oops, I lived at 265.
There used to a be good cajun place between 38/39 on 9th . I miss it. Go to Druid's up on 50th/10th and tell them you're an Okie. Last time I was there, the bartender was a dude I knew at OU. I know the owner, Michael. It's a great locals bar.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try it out and report back. Always good to know people in this area, if you know what I mean and I think you do.

The cajun place, sadly, is not there. But Esposito's meat market is still there, as is the hand-rolled cigar place on 9th just north of 38th, and the fish market at 40th and 9th. It can be kind of crappy, but I've really grown to like this neighborhood. It's changed quite a bit in just the 2 years I've been here.
