Jimmy Harris never lost a game as a 3 yr starter at OU, and won 2 NC's! Steve Davis won 2 NC's as a 3 yr starter, and only lost a game or 2! If we had a decent defense in '71, we EASILY would have beaten nebbish, even with the sh*t officiating in that game, and won the NC, with Mildren as QB.

I can't remember much from the 90s, which my dad says is a good thing, so here is how I rank the qbs under Stoops. BTW, I can't really comment on Mildren since I never did see him play so I will leave that up to the ones who saw him play.

1. White
2. Heupel
3. Hybl
4. Thompson
5. Bradford

40 TDs 10 INTs 61.64% 158.11 Rtg, that seems like he was a pretty damn good passer no matter his mobility... Not to mention beating tx from the bench and saving us from a floundering performance.

I could not in good conscience vote for Jack Mildren due to the fact that he played before my time and I never saw him take a snap. Jamelle was a magician until he tore his knee up in front of Pat Jones. I only wish that he would have had a decent head on his shoulders like Jack.

Jason White definitely needs to be added to the list. I'd like to see another QB throw 80 TD's vs. only 10 int's, I don't care how good the O-line was.

Remember in 2003, we did not exactly have an A running game.

Great thread. Nice to see some names that did not immediately come to mind. Yes, Jimmy Harris was a stud. He didn't lose a game on the freshman team either. If you have not read a book about the 47 game win streak, then add that to your list. A lot of great players and a great coach that set the stage.

Now that I'm thinking about the guys in the 50's, how many NFL Hall of Famers played at OU? Starts with Tommy McDonald. "Played for" kind of makes it a trick question.

If you have not read a book about the 47 game win streak, then add that to your list. I definitely recommend any Sooner fan to read "The Undefeated". Very entertaining reading, and so much fun for me. I was a kid, 9-12 yrs old during the Wilkinson 47 game win streak. ("Those were the days, my friend. We thought they'd never end")

The 1957 season was so disappointing, losing to texas. I thought Sooner dominance would go on forever, but the story I heard was that Bud got tired of recruiting, and wanted to be a Senator. 1963 was my freshman year at OU, and Bud's last year as OU's coach. The '60's were rough for Soonerfans.

For what they meant to the team...

In no particular order:
Mildren

Those are my picks because I like a guy who lays it all on the line and shows complete and total class along the way. Mildren was before my time, but being raised in a long line of Sooner alumni and fans... Did Jamelle's off the field problems sway your vote in anyway? I can't help feel that if he would have had an off the field life like Mildren, he would be held in higher regard with some people.

Passing QBs- White
Heupel
Bradford

Option QBs- Holieway
Mildren
Harris
IMHO you have to seperate passing QBs from option.White gets the nod among passers because he owns all passing records despite playing on two bad knees.Among option QBs I give Jamelle the nod because he was a great wishbone QB when the Wishbone was no longer a mystery.Mildren was a great pioneer of the 'Bone Age and Jimmy Harris was the Ace of the Split-T.

BTW Rush we did NOT lose to UT in 1957.Our only loss was 7-0 vs. ND.We beat the Horns 21-7 I believe.

Weak poll selections. Of course we have the luxury of having had some mighty fine qb's. It would be tough to say one better than another. Jimmy Harris - hard to argue with UNDEFEATED. I mean, isn't that what it all comes down to. Jack Mildren. Is there any question how good he was? Steve Davis. Pretty darn good Okie and 32-1-1 (I think) is pretty close to undefeated. How about Thomas Lott? The first OU qb I remember seeing making perfect pitches in the option downfield while his body was suspended horizontally in mid air just about to be tackled. Jamelle. Once again, greatness. Josh. I'd take one of him any year. Jason. Same goes. Yes, we've been blessed and it seems like it just keeps on truckin'.

uhhhh, not really.

What I meant by that was that when our O-line went up against a great D-line in USC and LSU his mobility was exposed and he got shaky. I remember him throwing a bad pass to a wide open Kejuan Jones. I'm not hating Jason White. I like the guy I just think had he not blown out two knees he would have been able to scramble more and make something happen. The guy had good speed coming out of high school and would have been an even better QB with that mobility.

Steve Davis hands down. His combination of leadership skills, decison making, and run/pass combination ability place him at the top of my list. Those not old enough to remember, those '73-'75 seasons were mighty heady.

One doesn't hear enough of Bobby Wormack. The OU-Tennessee game was a thing of beauty.

Didn't Switzer state that J.C. Watts was the best quarterback he had ?

Steve Davis, Jason White, Jack Mildren, Harris, Josh Heupel, and J.C. Watts in that order. Bradford appears to have a large upside. He just has to show it over the course of what hopehully will be a great 3-4 year career.

For a first post, that is pretty close to spot on. I started following OU football as a kid because of the "Wicked Worm's" perfomance against Tenn. Mildren was a childhood hero, but Davis did it all.
