A little help --- what is the biggest donation in state history now?

What, are they going to put spinner's on the student union now?

Maybe they'll decrease tuition, make football tickets affordable or even give the houses they eminent domained back to the original owners.

ROFL, JUST KIDDING! Tuition will never go down, ticket prices are only on a seasonal basis, and all your bulldozed houses are belong to us! :D

Ok, as far as large academic donations in state history, I think this is the biggest one-time gift at OU... if this even counts:

Nowhere is this more evident than in the galleries that showcase the Weitzenhoffer Collection of French Impressionism. The extraordinary collection of 33 French Impressionist masterworks was donated to the museum in 2000 through the bequest of Oklahoma City philanthropist Clara Weitzenhoffer. Valued at more than $50 million, the Aaron and Clara Weitzenhoffer Collection includes works by Degas, Gauguin, Monet, ****arro, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, Vuillard and others. It is the largest single gift in OU history and the most important donation of French Impressionism ever made to a public university.

So, $50 million at OU? Of course, Boonester already made a $165 million donation to OSU athletics, but what was the largest academic donation? I think it might have been from the Spears family in 2004 for the biz school, but I am not sure.

T. thinks he's such a player.

Well...I guess he is...but I still don't like him.

As usual, the Tulsa World comments section is entertainment in and of itself. :D

He and the rest of the Oil Speculators can rot for all I care. He should be ashamed of making the speculative statement that drove up oil prices today, but I'm sure his greed knows no bound. Besides I doubt our Department will see much of that cash.

The dollar amount was not released but is expected to be in the tens of millions.

Pickens gave $165 million to OSU athletics in 2005, which generated criticism from some faculty members that athletics were more important than academics.
Yup, you can see where their priorities are at good ol' BSU. http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/8338/pickens2pk7xj4.gif

Um.... ok then! Here are some linkys:
NewsOk (http://newsok.com/article/3246593/)
Tulsa World (http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?articleID=20080521_12_STILL47218)
And a little Assocaited Press blurb (http://www.newson6.com/global/story.asp?s=8358586)

It's quite simple economics... why not give $100 million away when you'll have billions left over? Wal Mart spends that much every second on PR!

But seriously, OSU needs it, so good for them to get money... that is, unless Pickens isn't "donating" the same way he did last time, when he said "Here's $165 million... for me to invest on behalf of the university."

:pop:Considering that OSU would pay someone to invest the money anyway, you could do worse than having T. Boone invest it for you.

no, the government bringing in the oil execs and threatening to sue them is what caused the recent rise in oil prices. there's also those guys in the middle east.

All he really did was put it in oil contracts. That $165M almost doubled since that announcement.

That's better than giving it to some jackass that wanted to stick them in Sub-prime CDO's and the like.

No, the spike in the last week or so is because the June oil futures contract trading window expires today.
