HYANNIS -- U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy was rushed by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital this morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport.
Hyannis fire responded to the compound after a call was made around 8:30 a.m. It's unclear what Kennedy's medical condition is, but after he spent almost two hours in the emergency room a decision was made to transfer him to Mass General Hospital in Boston.
Kennedy, 76, was placed on a stretcher and wheeled out to the MedFlight helicopter around 10:15 a.m. where it took off from Barnstable Municipal Airport.
The Kennedy family is preparing to host the annual Best Buddies Challenge event in Hyannisport this afternoon, which is a fund-raiser for the organization. Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver and helps people with intellectual disabilities.
Hundreds are expected to participate in the event, which kicked off this morning with a 100-mile bicycle ride from the Kennedy Library in Boston to Hyannisport.
A concert at the Kennedy compound is scheduled for tonight.
Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate since 1962..

She probably had to drink a few shots of the stuff just to find something nice to say about him.

Would it have been ironic if he'd had the seizure while driving on the Chapaquiddick bridge?

Not intending any insensitivity or anything, but it seems every time there's a crisis in the Kennedy Family, it dominates the news on a Saturday (I reference the JFK plane crash in 1999). Can we just go ahead and re-name the day "Kenneday?"

Normally I wouldn't get all giddy over a political opponent's demise, but this man has some karma coming his way. Of course you have the swimming incident where he should have at least been charged with negligent homicide (correct me if I'm wrong, Homey) then you have outrageous things like a bill that would have made anyone owning a .30-.30 rifle an instant felon. But, I'm not 'happy' about this. Actually I'm kind of nonchalant.

For those of you who aren't into guns, a .30-.30 is like grandpa's lever action deer gun. It ain't some bad-*** uber assault weapon.

Ted - Chappaquidick was his downfall. Despite his 40 something year service, he was viewed, accurately, as a connected-to-power figurehead, unable to admit error or indiscretion.

Is there room enough in Hell for another Kennedy?

Wow! I'm a little surprised at the tone of this thread. I can't stand the guy and I think he's bad for America but I'm not going to be happy if he dies.

Well...this guy is a special case. When Paul Wellstone augered in, I wasn't happy or content. But this cat is different because of the Mary Jo thing.

He never DID have to suffer the consequences of his actions. Why is that? I mean, the dude let the girl die...plain and simple...and was more concerned with "what do I do to save me?" than actually worrying about the fate of the girl.

srsly, I know people like sooneron, soonerscuba, fogue, etc, who are liberals and good people and I would never wish anything but the best for them, and I would help them out if I needed to. But this guy was a farking arse. Whatever happens happens. I'm nonchalant, like I said.

Point is, I don't wish anyone harm simply because they're a liberal.

(sorry about all of the edits....I'm kind of inebriated.)

I'd say in his current state he's definitely out of the way.

The people of Massachusetts will replace him with someone of the same ideology. Hopefully, they will find someone of better character.

you're talking about a state where Bill Belichek is currently beloved. High character isn't up there in the things they worship in Mass.
