That dad is freaking idiot. I don't care if he knew or not, who pay 7 bucks for a lemonade.

Also why didn't the vendor ask to see ID?

A very sad situation.

Sounds like everybody involved is a freaking idiot.

Probably becasue the dad looked like he was in the 38-40 age range. If he didn't buy it saying "Yeah, gonna get my boy a lemonade" why would they have reason to think he was going to give it to the kid?

Seeing as how a Coke at an OU game is 4-5 bucks, I don't think it was unreasonable for the dad to think a lemonade at a Tigers' game was 7. And the dad is probably in his 30s or 40s, so I don't see why the vendor would ask him for ID.

Surely there was something on the stand that says we ID. Aren't all alcoholic beverage carts suppose to have some sign on them saying that they ID?

I still think the guy was an idiot, but his kid didn't deserve to be taken away from his parents.

That can't be right. Back then and at that age, I'd imagine that Olevet was smoking filterless Camels.

Scratch that, he was probably already rolling his own.

I am in my early 40's and can't remember the last time that I was ID'd for an alcoholic beverage.

In most stadiums/arenas around the country that I have been to the concession stands sell both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Only have few have had completely separate stands for alcoholic beverages. If you don't drink, I can see where someone may not know that "hard" means with alcohol. I know my wife didn't because she asked me about Mike's Hard Lemonade after a commercial once, she doesn't drink and never has....and she is only a year younger than me.

When I visit the US, the only way I know the difference in juices and fortified juices is the section they're in in the 7-Eleven fridge.

It's a bit ridiculous to think a father is taking his 7-year old son to a ballgame to get the kid drunk. They way over re-acted.

Bingo. When Mike's Lemonade first came out I had no idea it had alcohol in it.

But I started to wonder why it was only advertised during football games....

And yet another great reason to drink alcoholic beverages! So you know these kinds of things and don't get your kids taken away! :texan:

That all sounds great guys except it says that is says that is a malt beverage on the dang package. Now being that this guy is a college professor, I would assume that he had at least two brain cells to rub together, and realize that there ain't no malt in lemonade.

True, it does say 'malt beverage' right on the label - but if you were buying what you assume is a regular lemonade for your kid, you're not going to think twice about picking up the bottle and handing it to junior (especially IF you're part of that small segment of the community that has no idea or knowledge that such a beverage exists).

I agree with you that he should've spent less time in his ivory tower and more time on the streets learning about his current civilization's artifacts. A naïve parent, yes - a bad parent, no.

EDIT: I remember back when this (http://www.cynosure-publications.co.uk/acatalog/FA40016-Sunlight-Dish-Soap2.jpg) was introduced that there were reports that the elderly mistook this for lemonade mix, and would serve it to their grandkids.

Dad always set me up with a Baby Miller while fishing at around that age. This is a huge reaction from a nothing offense.

Just goes to show how marketing can cause some issues. Sure it says Malt Beverage, but the labeling looks pretty innocent. I could see where someone could confuse it with your normal bottled lemonade.

Sounds like the guy made an innocent (some would call stupid) mistake, but the state completely over reacted.
