A few of you all asked for me to post a pic of the Superman/OU ut '01 TRRW painting I've been working on for Children's Medical Research Institute's "Celebrity Starlight Gala", so here it is. Technically, it's not done yet. The last thing I have to do (other than sign the thing and wire it) is put a iridescent metallic light gold glaze on the background. Problem with that is that it makes taking a solid pic for slides very very difficult. That being the case, I'll post a pic of that one when I get the time. It usually takes a half day of work in photoshop to get the image correct and I won't even go into the nightmare that is proper lighting for a painting with anything iridescent or metallic on it. It's worth it though, as that'll pop out the figures in such a way that makes it quasi-3d in appearance and it'll also tone down the Army BDU look to the background.

forgot to mention, in the initial thread a few people suggested that the horn logo was upside down. While I couldn't fix that, I can tell you that in the upper right corner I've scratched in "tx sucks".

It's actually going up for auction on Friday w/ benefits going to Children's Medical Research. They have this event every other year as their major fundraiser, and I've been lucky enough to have been asked to donate a painting for the past three CMRI Starlight Ball/Gala's (seems they've switched from calling it a "Ball" to "Gala" recently, but I'm not really sure as I've been holed up in the studio like I'm afraid of society). It's a great event and usually pulls some big names. Not sure who the celebrity(s) will be this year as they've been conspicuously quiet thus far. In 2006 the Grey's Anatomy guy was supposed to show but, literally, cancelled 24 hrs before the event due to a late shooting sched for the show. So, this year, they've been quiet. Aside from the Hollywood names, Switzer usually shows and I've heard rumors of Stoops this year (which is cool. cooler than Grey's Anatomy by a long shot). Here are some links with info on the event:

Nice.

What's the opening bid?

Depends on what they want to do, but I'd guess it would be either retail price($5k) or just shy of that.

Licensing?

Yeah, that would be kind of a headache on the lincensing issue(s). The fact that the painting itself it being donated for charity and being auctioned off is the only reason I felt it was safe to do. You've got: Nike; Riddell; U. Oklahoma; u. of texas; trRoy Williams; Chrissy Simms; and, most importantly, the photographer who took that shot back in '01. I can promise you he has a copyright on that image. Art law is funky though, and there are ways that I could justify this one painting if it wasn't being used as a donation (worst case scenario, I get sued by OU and/or ut and I have to pay them what I spent on supplies and materials. It would suck, but it wouldn't be all that bad in a financial sense). Selling and marketing a "FatHead" type of thing would be a different story. Licensing, production, and legalities would be a little rough. Still a cool idea, but probably not something I'd be down for at the moment.

The funny thing is that both those players were playing for State funded schools.

One would think if anyone had rights to the image...it would be Roy and Spleenboy.

Ship's already set sale. Went for 11k this evening for children's medical research. Obviously, this is a good thing and I'll leave it at that.

That's cool, it's the image, not the painting (all due respect) that inspired me. Be looking for a "fatheadish" wall covering with that image (not the paining), at your local walmart, in time for the Christmas season.

Thanks for the inspiration, and congrats on the 11K.
