According to David Boren, the state has $350 million less to spend this year than last year. I thought we were an oil state. Where the hell is all that oil revenue going?

Casinos.

If you aren't careful you'll have to merge with Kansas for synergy.

It's corporate tax revenue that's down. Most every politician you talk to says the oil and gas revenue is what's keeping us afloat.

Back in the day, there was a movement for the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles to get together with western Kansas to form a new state.

They could have called it "Wheatopia".

The income tax cuts aren't helping either.

We have non-oil* corporate tax revenue??

*No, I didn't forget about Sonic. I consider them to be in the grease/oil business. :D

Taxes obviously aren't low enough. Otherwise the government would be swimming in money. It's magic!

The money certainly isn't going into the highways or public streets. As a new Oklahoman, I'm embarrassed that our mayor and our governor are more concerned with bringing a band of thugs from the NBA to Oklahoma rather than taking care of its own citizens and infrastructure 1st.

That's certainly an interesting perspective. As a born-and-raised Oklahoman, I'm glad our elected officials are taking steps to improve the quality of life in ways that will ultimately attract more businesses to the state. That's probably because I remember what Oklahoma was like when I was growing up here in the 70s; there was nothing to do and no reason for anyone to come here. A lot of that has changed because of more far-sighted leadership.

Oklahoma roads have always sucked as far as I can remember.

I've noticed a marked change in attitudes in the 15 years I've lived here. Instead of a "woe is us" inferiority complex that probably started with the Dust Bowl and lived on through various oil busts and tornado outbreaks, I now see optimism and pride centered around things that aren't OU football.

But yeah, the roads still do suck.

That is good to hear. I left Oklahoma about 17 years ago so I still remember the inferiority complex.

Now it's mainly confined to Stillwater. :stunned:

And Tulsa. :pop:

True dat. 3.2 unemployment in Tulsa announced this week. A 21 year low. The way I figure it, out of 100 folks, more than that don't wanna work at all. I'm still trying to figger out how made those 2-3 percent go to work who wanted to stay on the couch and eat Pringles.;)

If we could bottle that elixir, we could put it in the water in New Orleans and get that sucka fixed in no time flat.

Unemployment doesn't count the deadbeats, because the deadbeats aren't even looking for work, right?

3.2 unemployment is about where you want it. You really don't want it going much below that.

:les: THE STIPE FAMILY PAID THE FREIGHT ON THAT SUCKA!

I've seen their name inscribed in three foot tall letters inside the dome myself. That crew, and tater tots from Sonic and QT soda-pop built that dome.

Of course, the Stipes' used ill-gotten gains to help bankroll our hella cool dome, but hey, a lot of other Oklahoma hee-stor-i-cal landmarks were built with such funds.;)

The dome is built.

No amount of whining is going to change anything.

BTW....wasn't Disney gonna build a mid-western park in Stroud?

I'd like to see a Monorail between Tulsa to OKC to Norman. :D
