View Full Version : When do I start to believe?

My Cards are 18-11, a franchise record for April and in 1st place. The pitching has been great while the hitting has been up and down.

Wainwright is a solid Ace, Loshe surely cant continue his pace. We are getting what we figured out of Looper, Piniero, and Wellemeyer. Mulder appears to be done based off of his 9er in his rehab start today, we will see?

I will feel better if we are still hanging around in June but I am honestly pleasantly surprised for a team that is supposed to be rebuilding

They definitely have some guys playing over their talent...But I thought the same of the championship team....You look at them on paper and your a little surprised that they won that many ball games

Collier11
5/2/2008, 01:06 PM
I think Larussa thrives off of this kind of team, that is what will hopefully allow them to hang around til they can make an impact trade in a month or two

The season is so damn long I would wait until at least the All-Star break before you get real excited. Example: 2007 NY Mets.

Trust me, I am very very cautiously optimistic...I mean look at Kyle Loshe, this guy is dominating with a career 4.6 era

I am a huge Cards fan. I am holding judgment until the second time through the league. Then we will see if teams have found any holes in guys like Skip and Rick. Would love to see some guys try to run on Ankiel though. I just love to watch him use that cannon on his left shoulder.

with Yadi, Ankiel, Skip, and even Izturis we have some great arms on this team. For all his offensive lacking, isnt it great to see a ss who doesnt have to take a hop skip to get the ball to 1st base

I guess this is as good enough a place as any to declare my National League rooting interest for the Cubs.

Toured Wrigley while in Chicago, so I'm in for the season.

I'm a Rangers fan so I should be good at this. ;)

Having said that the division has been pretty weak sauce lately but this yr should be really good with 3 good teams

Collier...what's your favorite Cards moment? I am only 29 so my mine don't go back that far, but Pujols ending Brad Lidges closing career, and Adam W buckling Beltran's knees with a nasty hook to send us to the Series have to be towards the top.

I remember listenening to Cards games on radio in the dorm room during Lou Brock's assault on the base-stealing record....did we ever whoop it up when he did it!!!!!

Nowadays my wife and I hold our collective breaths when Isringhausen goes in....I do not trust that boy.

FYI the Cards took 2 out of 3 from the Cubs...:D

I have a couple of moments, Cardinal moments I saw on Tv I would say that watching the Cards win the world series 2 yrs ago, watching wainwright K Beltran, Mcgwires record breaking homerun, all of Edmonds amazing catches

As far as seeing in person, I saw the Cards beat the Cubs in 12 innings when Ray Lankford had been 0/5 with 4k's and he got the game winning hit

I also saw Mcgwire hit 46 and Sosa hit 42 the year of the record in St.Louis

I saw Pujols go yard twice against KC

Also, not a great moment but I went to Stl last yr for my bday to see the Cards and Cubs and Hancock died the night after the game I watched, that has to be one of my most depressing bdays ever

starrca23
5/5/2008, 02:00 PM
I was there the weekend they closed old Bush...lots of former players and all kinds of good stuff. Worst memory...Ankiel actually went wild before the playoffs that year, he had a pretty good outing until the 5th inning and then threw three or four to the backstop...saw that.
I forgot about watching Edmonds take Zambrano deep a few years ago after Z had started mouthing and hit big Al...that was fun.

Collier11
5/6/2008, 01:55 AM
Only March 5th and if the Cards play 500. ball the rest of the month they will be 34-25 on June 1st...I never would have thought they would be playing this well, heres hopin they keep it up

starrca23
5/6/2008, 01:39 PM
They have played a lot of home games. Like I said...the second time through will tell us a lot. That rookie pitcher they put in in the 6th and 7th did well last night...Parisi was it???

Collier11
5/6/2008, 02:07 PM
Yea Parisi showed me something, McClellan is a stud! VIllone and Franklin have been great, if we can get Izzy right our bullpen is loaded. I still think we need another bat if we are going to win the division and I wish that we would trade Duncan in the worst way, he is horrible

starrca23
5/6/2008, 02:50 PM
Watching Duncan do anything is comic relief for me...unless we loose. They do need to trade him. I think he would be a servicable first basman. Don't think we'll be replacing ours soon.

starrca23
5/20/2008, 10:45 AM
Hey Collier, did you see Albert go yard twice last night? I BELIEVE!!!! Oh, and seeing Edmonds as a Cub is painful.

Collier11
5/20/2008, 12:19 PM
Very sad with Edmonds, but he did make a great catch lastnite. Every day that the Cards hang in there the Cubs start to feel the pressure. They are the overwhelming favs and we were picked 3rd or 4th. If Carpenter can give us anything we have a great shot

Pujols is at the beginning of a big hot streak hopefully

starrca23
5/20/2008, 12:24 PM

Collier11
5/20/2008, 12:37 PM

A bit off topic but I have pretty much given up on my Yankees. No pitching, no hitting, no management. Why they didn't go after Johan Sanatana is beyond me.

because they didn't want to give up two young pitchers. You can't fault Cashman for that.

However, I'm enjoying every petulant whinny crybabby fit that little Hanky Steinbrenner throws trying to act like he's his old man.

tommieharris91

That and AAA castoffs aren't supposed to have 2-month stretches of OPSing 1.199.

Collier11
5/22/2008, 12:24 AM
Pujols takes out 2 Padres within the span of 2 batters, first he hits a line drive off of Chris Youngs face then slides over the catchers ankle(clean slide) and rolls him up. After he hit Young you could literally see that Pujols was about to puke or cry one, a nice thing was that him and the Pads 1st baseman said a prayer on the field after it happened. Nice to see that sportsmanship still exists with some players

starrca23
5/22/2008, 10:40 AM
Ya, Puljos' next at bat was horrible. I think he was worried about killing someone. Maybe he should play linebacker for the Rams in the off season.

I get tired of hearing it about the NL Central. No big markets, the way baseball is you really are playing Moneyball. I mean seriously, give the Yanks the same payroll as the Brewers and what do you have. Not saying the Central should get mad props, but those teams do a good job with what they have. And yes I am a Cardinals homer, i know.

Zambrano and Dempster are both better than either the astros or cardinals can throw out right now (well, Wainwright might be better than Dempster).

Collier11
5/28/2008, 10:13 AM
wainwright is a legit #1, realize that if it werent for Izzy that wainwright would be about 8-2 right now. Dempster is about on the level of Piniero, really good sometimes and really average sometimes. If and a big IF carpenter can come back and be a similiar pitcher the Cardinals get a whole lot better. Wellemeyer has been really good thus far in his 2 seasons with the Cards
