Frankly, I think all three of our Juniors that left early are about to find out they made big mistakes.

i find the NFL a fascinating blend of boring and pompous that is strangely perceived as the most important thing in the world....but i agree with your second point, mostly.

To combine both of your points...The Juniors have left real football for an over-rated and often fixed entertainment medium, not unlike pro wrestling.

Malcom Kelly will either go to Dallas at 28 or Sf at 29. I think if he goes to Dallas and can spend a year or two at #2 behind TO, he will be in a really good spot to make a name for himself.

Playoffs? You kidding me? PLAYOFFS? Don't talk about playoffs. ;)

Here's hoping the Packers get some Sooner that I can brag about all year long to you stupid Bears/Vikings fans out there:D

I would brag about Favre being on Madden's cover this year, but, you know, it's cursed and I don't want to jinx Favre breaking the curse :D

I'm not sure what these "comparisons" are. I think McFadden is the real deal. However, he and AD are not similar runners.

Way too much MK love going on here. I think MK will be a solid pro, but lets not pretend these guys are idiots for not thinking highly of him. His off season has been a PR nightmare, his times poor and he played most of last year, with the exception of the big tv games(UT, Miami) like he couldnt wait to turn pro. When MK wasnt even the best receiver at OU, saying he is better than Jordy Nelson is a reach.

What Nelson lacks in talent he more than makes up for it in desire and leadership, unlike MK who is a crybaby. I'll be shocked if he's taken in the 2nd round after his outburst a couple of weeks ago. Also, I never saw Jordy Nelson take a play off... the same can't be said for MK.

MK should have stayed in school and polished his skills a bit more.

wow, a WR from coastal Carolina goes before MK. Kelly's mouth really cost him. If he just would of run and clammed up he might be gone by now.

This isn't just about "his mouth". Last season Malcolm demonstrated that he couldn't get open when DCs chose to keep him out of the equation or the opposition had a good shut down guy. His route running was mediocre, he had too many attention deficit drops and he got lazy about blocking. This was all BEFORE the off-season challenges, the workouts for the pros and his demonstrated immaturity in front of cameras when things didn't go his way.

Is he a great athlete? Without question. Did he wow everyone with some of his catches? No doubt about it. However, when folks are talking about investing a lot of money in a draft pick, all these questions add up to a later draft position.

An unfortunate reality check for someone who had so much more potential.

FWIW, the guy who got drafted last yr in CL's slot at #37 was Eric Weddle, he got a $1.8 million bonus in his 1st yr

The guy in MK's slot #51 was another WR Steve Smith and he got a $1.1 million bonus.

Based off of that I say CL made a GREAT choice to go pro, especially with his family situation and MK cost himself alot of money. Another yr of training and producing likely would have helped him. Still really good money but not $10 million like he was in line for before his crappy workouts and bad attitude

Kelly slid because of a few bad times on a 40. Woo ****in' hoo. Here's how a 40 works.

No pads, no helmets, no coverage, you start on your own time and no matter what, the drill is always the same distance. There are a ton of great playmakers with 40 times worse than MK, some of them are lighter and shorter guys and they don't have near the hands and vertical he's got. In the words of Bill Parcells "I don't care what they say about him, can he play?" I am far from a Rednecks fan, but I'll say this was a smart move. And due to all of the people second-guessing MK and dogging him, it sets up nicely for him to storm the scene like AD did last year when no one believed in him. Man, I've always been cool with all the Ravens, Bears and Vikings guys from OU, but now one of my Sooner favs is a stinkin' Redskin. ;)

Cheers, MK... congrats.

As a Redskins fan, I am very pleased with the fact that we wound up with MK.

The Redskins were desperate for offensive weapons to go with Portis, Cooley, Moss, and Randel El....by drafting both MK and Devin Thomas and adding the best receiving TE in the draft (Fred Davis), the Redskins have given Jason Campbell plenty of bullets.

Always cool when your pro team drafts someone from your college team :)

You already have a great TE, you had a solid backup which you just traded away for a 4th round pick and then you take one with your 2nd round pick? I'd have been MUCH happier with a WR pick there I think. But, he's good at least so maybe it'll turn out okay.

Redskins had a great first day...land the #1 WR in Thomas, the guy considered to be the best for most of the process in Kelly, and a good pass catching tight end in Davis...

KC improved on both sides of the ball with Dorsey and Albert but the Flowers pick was a good one at 35. This years corners were so even with each other that you could roll them out like dice and pick any one of the top5 or 6.

If your a Titan fan, I sympathize with you.

There should be a mandatory finance class their freshman year for all football and basketball players. The concept of time value of money, is missed by most kids. If I make 2.5 million this year (by coming out early) but will make 3.0 million if I stay in school and improve my draft status, why shouldn't I come out early? It's only a 20% return. Where in the H do you get a 20% return.
Also, the kids should negotitate with the agents who claim they will be a first round pick if they leave early. If I sign with you and I'm a first round pick you'll get you're normal 10%, if I fall to the second round you get 5% and if I fall lower than round two you'll get only 3%. Let the agents put some money at risk. In this years draft all of our players (even Kelly) were misled by signing early.

I see where you are coming from but with no other offensive help at all, this guy ran for over 2000 yds.

Could be a sleeper

I do see the need for some sort of game breaker on offense, but I was hoping for something a little more exciting from a fan's perspective. Forte could turn out to be great, but I was really hoping for Brohm or Kevin Smith (in my opinion, probably a better tailback than Forte). Barring some free agent miracle at qb and some depth in the secondary, I think the Bears have probably missed their window for the next few years. That being the case, why not trade up for another 1st round pick and get Flaco? The need for qb is painfully obvious, and trying to pick something up in free agency would have been a great call two years ago...but not so much now. The defense is getting older and is consistently injury prone and they have no answer for a passing game and, depending on Forte, no threat on the ground either. They need to get someone to build an offense around and I have my doubts that Forte is that player. The last couple of years, the lack of a ground game has hurt the passing game (along with Name Redacted, aka the guy from Florida) and currently I think the opposite may happen next year. I'm still sick that they didn't trade up with the Skins last year to grab AD, but the drafting brilliance of the Bears seemed to think that trading the one RB worth a darn while keeping Mr. Pouty from saxeT was the answer. At least they've got a solid start at TE and, hopefully, at RB. The silver lining is that, now that they look like they'll be running the ball more, Runnels may get more playing time. That and, as always, my primary fandom is with OU. That should make the fall much more tolerable. I feel like a Lions fan today, and that's bad.

MK's biggest screw up was his day that he showed his ***. The kid was taking a beating two years running due to not always on target passes. It was the right time for him to leave. Otherwise, he was heading to UFA territory with a nasty injury. Reggie was the one that made the worst decision and it shows.

Patrick transferred to Oklahoma in 2005. Sooners' coaches decided to execute a few position changes, moving pro prospect D.J. Wolfe to cornerback, with Patrick taking Wolfe's place as the team's "caddy" for All-American Adrian Peterson.

At Conway High School, Patrick excelled as a safety, halfback and kickoff returner. He earned All-State first-team honors and participated in the Shrine Bowl as a senior. That year, he recorded 105 tackles and four sacks. He rushed for 681 and seven touchdowns on 103 carries and averaged 33 yards a kickoff return including a 92-yard touchdown.

To improve his academics, Patrick enrolled at Independence Community College in 2003. He earned All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference honors as a strong safety, coming up with 91 tackles (61 solo) and 10 stops for losses. He caused two fumbles, deflected seven passes and intercepted two others, returning one for a touchdown. He also saw action on offense, totaling 120 yards with three scores on 24 carries (5.0-yard average).

Patrick was rated junior college's 14th-best player by Rivals.com and 23rd overall by College Football News entering the 2004 season. He was terrorizing Hutchinson College in the season opener, as he blocked a kick and made four tackles with a stop behind the line of scrimmage in the first quarter, but he fractured his fibula, missing the rest of the season.

In 2005, Patrick enrolled at Oklahoma. He appeared in 11 games on offense, but saw most of his action on special teams, recovering a fumble, as he made eight tackles (four solo) and gained 69 yards on four kickoff returns (17.2-yard average). The new reserve tailback carried 25 times for 136 yards (5.4 avg) and two touchdowns, adding eight yards on four catches.

As a junior, Patrick appeared in 12 games, sitting out the Texas Tech game with a right ankle sprain. He started five contests in relief of an injured Adrian Peterson, responding with 761 yards and four touchdowns on 169 attempts (4.5-yard average), earning All-Big Twelve Conference honorable mention. He also recorded four tackles (three solo).

Even though Patrick ran for 1,009 yards and eight touchdowns on 173 carries (5.2-yard average) in 2007, he did not receive any postseason honors. His average of 77.62 yards per game rushing ranked eighth in the Big Twelve, as he also caught 10 passes for 56 yards (5.6 avg) and a score. He tallied 185 yards on six kickoff returns (30.8 avg) and registered four tackles (three solo).

In 36 games at Oklahoma, Patrick started 17 contests on offense. He carried 367 times for 1,906 yards (5.2-yard average) and 14 touchdowns. He caught 14 passes for 64 yards (4.6 avg) and a score, adding 254 yards on ten kickoff returns. He also recorded 16 tackles (10 solo) and recovered a fumble.

During his two seasons at Independence College, Patrick recorded 95 tackles (62 solo) with a one-yard sack and 11 stops for losses of 36 yards. He gained 53 yards with a touchdown on two interception returns and deflected seven passes. He caused a pair of fumbles and blocked one kick, adding 120 yards on 24 rushes (5.0-yard average), scoring three times on the ground...For his entire collegiate career, Patrick appeared in 46 games, starting 10 contests on defense and 17 on offense. He rushed for 2,026 yards on 391 attempts (5.2 avg) with 17 touchdowns. He snatched 14 passes for 64 yards (4.6 avg) and a score and returned 10 kickoffs for 254 yards (25.4 avg). Junior College
Patrick spent two seasons at Independence Community College (2003-04), but was granted a medical hardship after he suffered a broken fibula on the second series of the 2004 season opener vs. Hutchinson College...Earned All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference honors as a strong safety in 2003 and was a National Junior College Athletics Association All-American preseason choice in 2004...Rated junior college's 14th-best player by Rivals.com and 23rd overall by College Football News...Played for head coach David Ward...Recipient of the John C. Pittman Most Valuable Player (team) Award.

High School
Attended Conway (S.C.) High School, excelling as a safety, halfback and kickoff returner...Earned All-State first-team honors and participated in the Shrine Bowl as a senior...That year, he recorded 105 tackles and four sacks, rushed for 681 and seven touchdowns on 103 carries (6.6-yard average) and averaged 33 yards a kickoff return including a 92-yard touch-down."

I have had the opportunity to speak with Patrick on a few occasions and I must say, he is a very confident individual, but he took the time to sign every little Sooner's football, program, hat, poster, etc. at the Red-White game. So, thanks, Allen! I told him "Good luck in the NFL!" to which he smiled and said "Thanks, I appreciate it."

Soo... good luck in the NFL, Allen. Make Sooner Nation proud!

I'm glad to see AP go to the Ravens.

Wish our other guys would get a chance somewhere-

Joe Jon Finley
Garrett Hartley
DJ Wolfe
Marcus Walker
Darien Williams

any chance they might get to try out for a team?

I guess there's a chance one of them still might get drafted. There's 245 picks in the books and 252 overall (they are on compensatory picks right now, of which Patrick was the first at 240). I know it's "Mr. Insignificant" at this point, but there an elite status that goes with being drafted :D

I am confident that DJ Wolfe can go into a training camp, impress the heell out of a team and get at least a practice squad spot, if not a special teamer position. I would say the same for Joe Jon. I am less confident in Garrett getting the same treatment and even less confident in Marcus and Darien. However, I'm sure each of them will get a spot in a training camp to prove that the draft is meaningless once you're on the field. Good luck to all OUr Sooners :)

Im more confident in Marcus and Joe Jon myself..I think they all get invites somewhere but those two have the best shot at making a team IMO

AP isn't a "steal," but he'll do good for what he's aiming for, special teams and backup duty. You never know when he might get the call over the starter like he did at OU. Garrett hartley will be the biggest shock if he doesn't go anywhere. The guy hits em throught the endzone from the 30 and can kick a 70-yard FG.

Former Sallisaw Black Diamond and Kansas tight end Derek Fine was drafted in the fourth round by the Buffalo Bills. I'm shocked that he was picked that high, but as someone who saw Fine play in high school and know him real well, I'm real proud of him.

Now that Billick is gone, I may become a Ravens fan.
Here's to hoping that AP sticks there. I think Baltimore got a bargain.
