All those links and you didn't include one for [url="http://www.grupofantasma.com/"Grupo Fantasma[/url]?

Seriously, Grupo Fantasma will rock off bits you didn't know you had. They'll pwn just about every other band on that list.

YlVNe74l064

And they're the only band I've ever seen that can cover a Tower of Power tune and not suck.

All those links and you didn't include one for Grupo Fantasma? They rule. In fact, they rule so hard that earlier this week Prince asked them to tour with him. So, no NMF for them.

bump. i wish they had stuff like this when i was in high school.

it was hard work for good music back then. no venues, no internet, no radio (ain't changed). hunting down music mags and taking chances on imports....word of mouth, live shows. i wouldn't trade it for the world, but it was tough sledding "inna day". and i'm talking pre-kittens, way pre-kittens. D. Boon had been dead for two weeks before it was confirmed in a small note in Rolling Stone. rumors, sure. it's a different world today.

good for Norman. note super sweet sundown shot of Midway Grocery in High vid.

Chainsaw Kittens playing in the middle of Main Street.

hell, it was hard enough to see bands at Subterranea "on" Main Street. that venue was open for about a year....and hosted the Replacements, minutemen, Scratch Acid....bunch of others.

of course, a bunch of 401k baby boomers bought the new Eagles LP (top 10). so, maybe it's all nostalgia.

"on the back of a winged horse.....". word up, D.

i had fun. i drank some beer. i saw some bands. i got kicked off a roof.

i wanted to see British Sea Power, but didn't. The Umbrellas were good, as were The Starkweather Boys as usual. i liked Taddy Porter. other people sounded good, but i didn't catch a lot of bands or introductions, etc... i spent a lot of time just goofing off around Main Street

i left before Polyphonic Spree came on, i was beat, i got there too early :D

there were a ton of people once it got a bit later. i hope it takes off. it was a pretty cool thing to see in Norman, especially for FREE!

Fantasticness.

Had to take a couple breaks from the sun - that said, you couldn't have asked for better weather. Took one of our dogs out during the afternoon. Lots of dogs out there. Lots of families. In fact, a lot more people than I thought would be there. One of the organizers confirmed that there was more than they expected too. The Oklahoman estimated it drew 6,000+.

I caught the end of Umbrellas set - which was much better than I expected. Saw a few songs from Tall Cotton String Band and Refuje. The Neighborhood was great. Took a break, came back to see the last part of Evangelicals. Sat down in the shade to listen to Cheyenne. Took the dog back and came back with LilSooner. Ate and took in Chainsaw Kittens, which were fantastic.

Here's a couple pictures I found on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/search/?ss=2&ct=6&w=all&q=norman+music+festival&m=text):

From a festival-goer perspective, everything went spendidly. It has to be a for sure every year thing now.

Here's a few stories I've seen:

nice, thanks Rhino and yermom.

did the Kittens have two drummers, that looks like another symbol on the far left of the pic? not real hot on the newish Sooner Theater sign, but we do have a statue of James Garner....so, hey.

Rhino

I think the other drumkit was The Polyphonic Spree's.

One of my good friends helped organize this, they said for the 1st yr it was a resounding success. I had a great time, city treated it like a game day with beer drinking allowed. You could even bring in your own can beer. Polyphonic Spree was really good, Mama Sweet at the Opolis for the after party was great as always. Hopefully this will get bigger and bigger, probably never going to be a ACL but something close would be nice

Seriously... props to all that are getting some top notch bands into Norman... where the hell was this when I was at OU a few years back... :( Anyone going to be in town around May 23-June 5 or so?? Planning on returning to Norman for a bit of a vacation.

I talked with one of the people involved after my last post and he estimated there were 10,000 to 12,000 people there throughout the day.

I went at 2:00 and took my 4 year old to see the Neighborhood. They were great. Then I went back at around 8 and saw Chainsaw Kittens and Polyphonic Spree. I thought they were both awesome. PS live is an experience. I thought it was fansatic and a great thing for Norman. My suggestions would be more food vendors and booths down the street but other than that I had nothing bad to say. I did see two dudes get into a fight (broken up fast) during PS. I was like, "How can you fight during this? Listen to the music, man. It's all peace and love and stuff"

I'll admit I was never into the Chainsaw Kittens back in the day. I wish I was, they rocked.

And, I have the first PS CD and I liked it but it got a bit monotonous to me. Their new one is really good, though. I'll have to check out the others. I'll most definitely be back next year.

Who do I e-mail to tell they did a good job putting it on?

my friend Jim helped organize it, I can pass on any emails to him...not sure if he wants me giving out his work email but he would make sure that any suggestions or compliments made it to the board that organized everything

i was down camping in the wichitas but would have loved to go. this thing won't be an ACL but i'd settle for austin's fun fun fun fest. hopefully if this takes off we can finally start getting some good bands to come here year round and not just spillovers from bands going to or leaving SXSW. one can hope.
