Texas linebacker is a Sooner
Apr 16, 2008
James Hale

The Sooners hit the jackpot yesterday with Las Vegas defensive end Justin Chaisson, and they've done it again today landing hard-hitting New Braunfels, Texas linebacker Tom Wort. Wort, who is a member of ESPN's Top 150 watch list, chose the Sooners despite offers from LSU, USC, Florida, Miami and Texas A&M. See inside for ESPN/Scout Inc's evaluation on Wort's game, as well

This is the type of kid we need to recruit! His motor is always running and he hits with reckless abandon. I'm so excited for him to get on campus! He may start from day one.

I doubt he leaves, i have a premium membership with rivals and he's and JC have become good friends. Infact, Justin Chaisson (sp) called him to tell Wort of his decision before he committed. I could be wrong, but usually when guys feel great about a program, and then on top of that find other top flight recruits they like being around, its hard for them to leave and go else where. This is shaping up to be a really good defensive class though.......real exciting stuff.

Note: David Gordon will committ soon, that guy loves OU, and the last time rivals did an interview with Lynn, Lynn mentioned that David WAS going to committ to Oklahoma and was trying to get Lynn to join him.

Learning how to play American football by watching the Waterboy explains a lot... I wonder if Venables will let him run around like that and smoke people.

Maybe in the Royback position - Rover

"I don't take anything for granted," Wort said. "I appreciate the opportunity to play this sport. I almost didn't get the chance. Now that I have it, I go full out, every play.

"It's a privilege to play this game."

Good story, seems like a good kid--can't wait to see him in Crimson and Cream.

I don't know much about this guy, but is he the smaller faster linebacker type?

MojoRisen
4/17/2008, 10:24 AM
He could easily blow up to 230 in college - he is about the same size as Auston Box out of HighSchool as a Junior.

I think he could play the Royback position - at 220 though. Roy never ran a 4-4 - 46-47 ish I believe.

Box was normally one of the bigger kids on the field. I'd dare say Box is bigger than this kid. Both can bring the wood.

Someone over at S'Times posted a link to (Texiz) AgTimes wherein, apparently, there's an enjoyable rant/whine about how/why they didn't get Tom.
I ain't gonna register THERE (AgTimes, that is,) in order to read it so if anyone here has access and can post a quote thereof I'd be most appreciative.
You see, there are few better whiners re OU than The Society For The Preservation Of Dead Collies. They're almost so obsessed with OU as the various genders up in Stoolwater or in Awstink.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this request.

I remain, as ever, most sincerely, Yr. Obnt. Svnt.

did you get it dodging tumbleweeds?

Nah, I ain't in the Panhandle anymore. I did it paiting my house that I moved back into over close to Sherman. I was kneeling down with a bucket of paint, foot tangled in the dropcloth and ended up trapped underneath me. Kinda dorky really, but I didn't spill a drop of paint! :D

I just got out there last Sunday for my own beer league flag football team. I know I'm not a seasoned athlete, but I do still pride myself in being in pretty good shape and pretty fast still... I was out for four weeks and still I'm not very good cutting or changing direction without sharp pains from a high ankle sprain. It's still black and blue and swollen like crazy, though normal walking, jogging and straight-ahead running doesn't bother me anymore.

Just makes you appreciate what guys like AD and AP both went through to get back out there for their team in the REAL world of sports.

He does know that here "football" is real football and not soccer right? Hehe, I had to say it. Dude is a beast and I can't wait to see him on the field. I get pumped just from watching his highlights. If he plays like that in Norman, im gonna be one of his biggest fans.

Bringing an old thread up but absolutely delighted to see a fellow Englishman going to such a great University to play, and hopefully imrpove hugely and have an impressive career.

Will be following his progress extensively and cannot wait to see him play, and any articles/stories posted about Wort would be awesome. Roll on the new Football season!

Its awesome from a Football perspective in the UK. To have a positive role model in the game, playing at such a high level (or will be come season opener) who was from England, is just great. As a and a coach at GB level, and a player not quite at that level over here, I will definately be using Wort as an example that you can achieve what you want, if you put your mind to it and work hard.

Expect alot more Sooner fans from the UK when he really takes off, but anything that help promote more Football here, is welcome in my book!
