View Full Version : 2001 OU tex "Superman" play question

So, I'm working on a 4'x5' painting of the Superman play for Children's Medical Research Institute's Starlight Gala. It's close enough to done (though, I really wish Roy would have cocked his head at a different angle. His nose is impossible to find and I really do need to give him one), but I've got one huge question. What's the name of the play that the D ran? I know it's slam-dog something, but the CMRI folks want/need a name for this currently un-named painting and they need it in a hurry for press, programs, and that sort of stuff. I'll be madly searching via google for it, but if anyone can bail me out here, that would be HUGE.

So I've searched the internet for an hour and all I've got is "slamdog". If anyone does know of the specific play-call, it would make my week (I HATE naming paintings almost as much as I hate texas). I know it's out of the Nickle and looks like something's going on with a cover 3 or 4, but for the purpose that this painting is being used for I will get called out if I just make some name up. Thanks in advance if anyone manages to figure this one out

Slamdog was the name of the blitz package.

I believe we were in a nickel D.

The SI issue with "Take That Texas" on the cover with Jimmy Wilkerson pictured has a great article about everything leading up to the "slamdog" blitz. Roy was NOT supposed to leave his feet....but obviously he did and it was Roy...Chrissy...Teddy...Ball game.

Thanks for the help. I've got the magazine somewhere and I've re-read it on CNNSI.com this afternoon. I'll post a pic of the painting after I finish up Roy's face/facemask. Like I said, it's for a good cause (CMRI) so if anyone can help out with the play name you'd get some good karma out of the deal. My giant fear is that, as Switzer and some other OU celebs or supposed to be at the event, I'll have some assumed play name like Slamdog Nickle Umbrella 3 and they'll look at me like I've got three heads.

When I taught that defense to Bob and Mike I taught it as the "Slamdog Henry 321" but I'm pretty sure they renamed it to sort of make it their own.

You people, I made that up.

Just name the painting: Superman...

You better post a photo when it's done.

Please? :D

I'll go with Catfish here. Call it "Superman", 'cause that's what every OU fan knows it as.

I'd like to keep it myself, but it's going up for auction w/ benefits going to CMRI.

They renamed it "Zulu Pickle Blowfish".

Great painting, BTW.

Finished product is hopefully a week or so away. In the mean time, if anyone happens to run across the name of the play (yeah, I know that's not really likely unless you have a close, personal relationship with one of the coaches...but it's worth a try) that would be a cornucopia of awesomeness. Thanks to everyone who threw out the compliments on the work in progress, this thing has been eating my soul/kicking my backside for over a month and the encouragement does help. Here's where it is today:

maybe you could try emailing the athletic department and telling them the story and seeing if they could help you in finding the name of the play....

thats my suggestion.
