Do y'all wanna meet up in Bricktown for dinner before the concert? Say 1700 (that's 5:00 pm for those of you who don't speak military)?

If so, lemme know so we can discuss venue and I'll make the necessary reservations.
(No, I'm not buying:texan: )

TIA.

And I'd love it if S.F. peeps showed up for a drink who aren't even going to the Rush concert just so we could finally meet and say hello. It would be nice. :)

heh, Journey, heh. <cough> lame </cough>

You know this is the first concert I have paid to go see in about 6 years!
I get the Tool tix for free, so I have gone to most of their shows around Oklahoma/Texas for the last few years, but no act got me excited enough to spend my precious little money on them till Rush!

Brought my Rush in Rio DVD to work tonight.

I'm going to be in town with Phil for the Rush concert and after the show on Saturday we will be grabbing drinks in BrickTown and I thought it would be really nice to finally meet some of you guys.

Plus I haven't gotten a good drunk on in Oklahoma in about 7 years...so I really need it. And you gotta have friends with you when you're getting a good drunk on! ;)

So...around 11pm on Saturday night...who wants to meet up in BrickTown for some drinks?

And, yes, USMC...if you still wanna fight me you can fight me. It's the least I can do. ;)

LOL

So...someone told you that USMC and I actually MET?!

My credibility is relative. To you it may be zero. To many others on here it is 100%. The ones who consider it zero have never met me and the ones who consider it 100% have. You can draw a very logical conclusion from that fact. Also...I really couldn't care less whether you consider me credible or not. Do we know each other? No. Have we ever met? No. Are we contemporaries? No. But I started a thread to hvae fun and get a bunch of people to go out and have a great evening and you decided to turn it into some kind of weak personal attack. *shrug* Whatever makes your day feel fulfilled, bro.

Bricktown Brewery?

BigRedJed
4/19/2008, 09:34 PM
My suggestion is Makers or the bar at Mickey Mantles. Nice places, and you won't be overrun with kids and the bad kind of hillbillies.

Other than that, outside of Bricktown there are also some nice downtown spots that will be sophisticated and light on the riff-raff on a Saturday night. You might consider XO Lounge in the Colcord, the Red Piano lounge at the Skirvin, or Red Prime, at NW 4th and Broadway. All are walkable from Bricktown, though Red Prime is getting close to car territory for most Okies. Well, now that I think about it, the Cox center is close to car territory for most Okies attending events at the Ford Center, but you get the idea.

Not quite as walkable, but also a good choice: Deep Deuce Bar and Grill, on 2nd one block east of Walnut.

LAS...

Whatever you guys do, keep your phones on. I'm supposed to hit a sorority party with my girlfriend and her sister for a few hours early Saturday evening. After that, I'm going to NEED a drink.

I should be in town either late Thursday evening, or early Friday morning. Either way, I'm game for just about anything. I'm watching the draft somewhere in Norman on Saturday morning / afternoon, and I've got that party Saturday night. Beyond that, Friday night may be a card night, even. Just let me know what you've got planned. I'd like to see you make it to Norman for the first round or two of the draft.

Oh... and keep on joking... You can't let the people that don't get it determine what YOU think is funny, right? It's bad enough I have to dummy-down at my job so that I'm understood. I don't want to see anybody have to do the same in their personal life as well. It's a "credibility thing," I suppose. :D

Whatever you guys do, keep your phones on. I'm supposed to hit a sorority party with my girlfriend and her sister for a few hours early Saturday evening. After that, I'm going to NEED a drink.

Heh. Good luck. It closed a few years back. Last I heard, ALL of them in Oklahoma are closed now. Even the Tulsa store. I know Norman is, 'cause it's something new now. BJ's. (They pimp the Hell out of their beer, but it's not that good and everything else is over-priced...)

As for Javier, I have no idea what happened to that guy. As far as I know, he's still rubbing his chest, saying "brah," all the time, and trying to cash the checks of employees that left without picking them up. Those zany former restaurant managers are all alike.

Edit: I forgot this a second ago... My bad... Hey, 68. Two things... 1) Thanks for having the sack to sign your neg. 2) Shame you squandered it on not responding to LAS, or USMC for that matter. Kinda makes your story look like swiss cheese when both parties get together, eh? If you're joyless, that's on you, man, but my advice would be to KEEP it on you. We're all friends in here, and if we joke around, so be it. Are you angry because you didn't get an invite to the reindeer games or because you didn't get the joke and thought it was on you? Either way, it's whatever. When I need your opinion on what is and isn't funny, I'll go ahead and top myself off with a piece of sandpaper and a lemon. Keep your flame bait to yourself, please... or not. You know where the party is. Feel free to get off the sidelines and have a few in person. Maybe we're funnier in person. (Although having been there myself, I doubt it...)

It was a good show last night, the first time that I have seen them since Reunion Arena in 1992. They had it set up in the theater style and it was pretty full except for the top corners of the last section on each side of the upper level. I talked to some people around me and a few were making the OKC and Dallas shows as well as the Austin one last night. It was the first time that my wife has seen them, she basically had only ever heard Tom Sawyer that she recalls.

I can say the Erwin Center< LNC. Too cramped, too tight of a concourse and the entries are too small. The only positive was they sold beer which I thought was a bit different for an on-campus facility anymore.

If you are close to the stage then the audio levels are typically lower because the speaker arrays are over about the first five rows. I had fifth row for the Signals tour at The Myriad and it was at a very listenable level, during the opener I went to get a drink and noticed it started getting loud about rows 15-20. Rush has never played as loud as some and they have almost always had the arrays up high.

Now other concerts that I have been to that had them near the stage are a different story, I saw Krokus/Accept at the LNC and was on the right end of the front row. They had the array on the floor, I was deaf in my right ear for about a week.

Y'all enjoy it tonight.

Havok, you are right about the lack of enthusiasm in the crowd...especially during the 2112 overture...I saw em in Vegas during the R30 tour, that crowd was complete mayhem compared to what I saw last night. But I think that's due to Okies' general conservative nature.

Dude, It is 100% cool. Let me say this. I have gone to at least 5 Tool shows in the last few years, been backstage at all of them. This was the best concert I had ever been to! I had a perfect, unobstructed view of the stage the whole show. Hell, if I had wanted down, the security guy at section 116 was gone half the time, I could have "accidentally" wandered down, but I LOVED my seats. You notice that big curved speaker hanging to the right of the stage, it was pointed right at me man! There were only two things that could have made last night any better:

1.) Get to meet Geddy, Al, and Neil

2.) Have $500 because that leather jacket was bad ***!!!!!

I think a lot of that is due to the fact that those have become the high dollar/VIP seats, those with money to blow on them can't get too into it or they wouldn't be "cool"....much like the high dollar donors at football/basketball games

When I worked at Sound Warehouse we used to get a bunch of front row tickets, and we also used them instead of brokering them. Now they are for a different type of "fan".

I think they like their little inside jokes, like the dryers in the last tour.

SoonerStormchaser
4/29/2008, 06:50 AM
Yah...I watched a LOT of people moving into my section from the nosebleed areas once the concert started...only to move back to their original seats once the people with the tickets for those seats started showing up around "Mission." C'mon people...you paid good money for those seats, why are you finally showing up 1/4 of the way into the concert? This could be their last time in Oklahoma...or on the road EVAR.

One thing, and maybe LAS can answer this. This was my third concert, and thus far, I've heard them play something from every single album EXCEPT Presto, which is my favorite album. In fact, the only concert CD/DVD I've seen that even plays a song from Presto is "Rush in Rio" where they play "The Pass." Was that album not that popular with the rest of the fans or is there some other reason why they don't put any of those songs in the set?

Presto was 1989, they were pretty much well beyond the "drug stage" by then if they ever had that "stage" at all. Never heard much about them and drugs. Show Don't Tell was probably the biggest song off that album. They just have so much material that some is going to be left off the set list. Dudes, my all-time favorite Rush album - BAR NONE - is "Rush." Before Peart. Back when they just played R&R and ****. Everything since then is OK, but pales by comparison. Most of you Rush lovers don't even consider it when talking about them, but there's nary a bad tune on the album.

Neg away.

Oh I do not question the greatness of Peart as a drummer, it's just that the band's music isn't as good as it was on Rush.

Plus, Finding My Way pretty sounds pretty much like it was recorded by Led Zeppelin. Eerily Plant and Page like. The entire album sounds like it was made by an LZ tribute band, in fact. Just straightass RYFFO rocky goodness.

I went to the show in KC last night. I'd never seen them live before, and I was exceedingly impressed. They are even more skilled than I ever thought now that I've seen them live. Great set list, played some great stuff off Snakes and Arrows but played just about the exact older songs that I would have wanted if I could have chosen.

Geddy came back after the intermission wearing a KU Basketball National Championship T-shirt, which obviously went over very well here in KC.

Great show.

Sooners shirt would have rawked, though.

I read that Geddy's voice was a little rough in KC? Maybe due to it being the second show of the tour and he's getting the pipes tuned up? Also heard the Dream Theater drummer was in the crowd and gave the show multiple thumbs up! I can vouch for the Albuquerque show, just hearing Camera Eye makes it worth going.
