actually its encouraging to see our D looking salty in the spring game, as they should be

It's the Spring Game. The offense was pretty handicapped for several reasons: key players out with injury, the OL can't cut block, the defense knows the playbook, etc. The defense should always be better in the Spring anyway. If it's the other way around, you've got some serious problems on defense.

One of your question marks (to the extent you have them) was at linebacker and defensive secondary. Looks that the secondary isn't really a question mark any more. I'd look on this as encouraging, if I were you.

Well, either the secondary is great, or they were making Sam wear his road uni. :D

All of Bradfords Int were off of tips, but hazle was just throwing the ball to defenders.

I always remember Switzer saying that he knew he had problems if his defense didn't dominate his offense in the spring.

Clapp looks like he had a great day. JJ had a couple nice looking runs. D looked good, that's a nice sign.

Bradford will be fine. lol

Franks showed some flashes up the gamebreaker we've been looking for on defense again.

Anybody have the stats from last year's spring game? Knowing that Sam had a great year last year, it would be interesting to compare his stats this year and last...

Anyone else watch the "College Gameday Final" on espn last night? They showed some highlights from our Red/White game...gave some props to Franks for his 3 ints...and they did a phone interview w/Sam. Before they hung up they were letting everyone know how great an athlete Sam is and they asked him what his best golf score is. He said a 63.

Was in phoenix playing golf, but caught a few highlights. Was the wind like 30mph? Might have something to do with qb accuracy.

Offense will be fine. Got to worry about the D line and secondary.

In last year's Red-White game:
Bradford 9-14, 110 yds, 1 TD, 0 Int
Halzle 7-18, 162, 1 TD, 1 Int
Nichol 3-7, 25 yds

It was windy out there, with gusts in the 30s. But at least a couple of times Halzle threw into coverage or scrambled when he actually had an open receiver.

Nichol throws into coverage, including straight into double coverage at least once.

It's spring ball, so I look for these guys to improve and things to look different in real situations but still some room for improvement from the backups.

Thanks! That is what I saw on replay as well. One of the tips went pretty high that was intercepted. That was left out of the original report. Big difference between throwing right to the defender and a tipped ball.

And why is that?

I believe Josh threw 2 or 3 interceptions in the 2000 spring game, including a pick-6 to Thatcher.

And that season turned out okay.

Glad somebody said it (tips). Yes are secondary is better than last year, it's still early, but i've been saying that since day 1 of the spring. Can't take the spring game to seriously, players are ready for finals to be over and summer to start. I would have been more happy seeing sammy throw 5 INTS, because he is proven so it would not worry me, the secondary is not at the moment.

Im not too worried about Sam right now, he'll be fine. He's supposedly been fine in all the other practices, so i'm not worried yet.

There are a lot of limits to what we can tell from a spring game.

First, as some have commented the offense holds out certain blocking schemes, etc.

Second, the general rule is you want your defense to do much better in spring than the offense.

Third, the coaches were "toying" with a bunch of calls. They weren't even considering the wind in what passes not to call.

And why is that?

Because this is the worthless troll that signs every post with "firebobbyjack.com", and defensive ends and secondary are the two parts of the defense that the aforementioned Bobby Jack Wright has coached.
