UTEP.

They actually took "El Paso", a huge hit for 60's c/w star Marty Robbins and made it their offishul fight song/march.

however, this is still infinitely more ghey:

Isn't the Australian national anthem a pop hit from the 50s/60s?

I would have been more surprised if that wasn't their fight song.

On the same subject, why isn't Tulsa's fight song "Tulsa Time"?

What about Yale's (http://yalebulldogs.cstv.com/trads/songs.html) old fight song, Boola Boola (http://www.cis.yale.edu/athletic/songs/boola.mp3)?

Personally, I like it.

They have a stylized arrangment the marching band plays occasionally that incorporates Eric Clapton's "Tulsa Time," Bob Wills' "Take Me Back to Tulsa" and "Get Your Kicks on Route 66." That last one is because TU is America's only university actually located astride the Mother Road.

The offishul fight song predates all those hits, and as is befitting Oklahoma's academically highest ranked university and second most successful college football program. ;)

Moore West Jr High's fight song was once the theme from the Magnificent Seven, which also happend to be the Marlborough man's theme song, back in the day when ciggy makers could advertize on the TV & stuff.

Who was the first to record it, Don Williams? The Tulsa Roughnecks had that as their song for most of their time here.

That's probably the best video that could ever be made of that song.
Very touching.

It was written by the guitarist for Don Williams, Don performed the song in '87 but Eric perfomed it in '78.

Interesting.

i thought Williams did it earlier than that, but i could be wrong. 87 seems kinda late. there IS a great youtube of Clapton doing it.

Clapton's band at the time was all from Oklahoma, they say.

something like that, i've read that somewhere in my wasted youth of reading music mags.

Either way both men perfomed it very well.

When was that. I went to Moore West the first 3 years it was a school (I was in the top grade at the school each year) and I don't ever remember that. All we ever played in band was "Onward Tigers" ("On Wisconsin). But of course that was 1972-74 and I have slept since then. :D
