Ford sells Jaguar and Land Rover for $1.7B, or 1/3 of what they bought Jaguar and Land Rover for.

Ford shareholders ought to be happy about that

Why would Daimler or BMW want either of those two brands? BMW owned Landie once already and dumped it on Ford. Jaguar is a has been brand, and basically got tossed in a parting gift for taking Land Rover. Tata is one of the few companies that makes cars that has the money to **** away on a venture like this.

I have a Jaguar/Merc dealership a block from my house. IMHO, modern Jaguars are basically Mercuries with a silver kitty on the hood. They haven't been selling to many either.

Yeah, I was about to say that Daimler probably isn't real hipped on buying ****ty car companies off of Americans anytime soon.

Jags and Rovers have seen their day anyway.

Also given the state of India's roads, it's one of the places you could justify a Landie on practical grounds.

The only people who can afford a jaguars are the extremely wealthy because they're in the shop as much as they're on the road.

BMW or MB don't what those brands, why associate yourself with overpriced, poorly designed and made autos? Tata is a great fit for that. You should see their buses. In Qatar, these buses are everywhere, they are extremely cheap and create a lot of margin for the transportation company owners. The AC in these buses and oscillating fans every other row...Don't think that works too well when the temp outside is 125 degrees plus.

I wonder if they make car bras for Tatas?

Ford really F'ed up Land Rover (and Jag, too), I don't see how this could be any worse.

What's wrong with Toyotas? I drive an 05 Corolla and absolutely love it.

As a previous LandRover owner, they were pretty much f****ed up before Ford got hold of them. Mine gave me over 200,000 miles before I sold it, but it was constant repairs - and costly ones at that. Pretty much feel the same way about the Jag. I had one before Ford adopted them and in the two years that I had it, ended up putting 3 transmissions in it. Maybe someone will be able to straighten them out.

As long as Land Rover keeps licensing Flaming Lips songs for their commercials, I'm happy.

Nothing wrong with Toyotas. Everything wrong with someone who drives an MR2 popping off about Mercedes.

Wrong again nanook. Just cause it's got a peace sign on the hood doesn't make it worth owning. Ounce for ounce and dollar for dollar, that MR2 is worth 10x what a POS Merc is.

1. Jags and Land Rovers were massive POS way before Ford bought them.

2. A decent automobile hasn't been built on that side of the pond since the beetle.

3. The only thing that's worse than a German car is a British car.

4. The only thing that's worse than a British car is a Swedish car.

5. The only thing that's worse than a Swedish car is a French car.

6. The only thing that's worse than a French car is an Italian car.

7. The only thing that's worse than an Italian car is a Yugoslavian car.

8. You get the picture...

1. Dollar for dollar it's worth more? That doesn't actually make sense in English.

2. It's possibly worth more if you're the kind of person who wears pink muscle shirts and wears a pornstache.

9. Japan kicked our butts and show me a 1980's vehicle that doesn't prove that.

Thankfully, we are recovering in the auto industry.

I can go on all day. Just google "mercedes reliability" and it's a known fact they're not well made.

You know somebody once said the same thing to me. He drove to town in his truck to get his booze with his monthly welfare check. I'm also sure the room temperature was higher than his I.Q.

But I know that's not you now Mike ;)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's not me. All I can go off of is the fact that my last two cars have been Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and I've had 0 mechanical problems with either.

Hey, you know why racing Toyotas is kind of like running the 100 meters in the Special Olympics?

Oh, and here's something from this year, not three years ago. Important to note: Daimler dumped Chrysler last year.

I saw a used Land Rover for sale at the corner of 51st and Harvard yesterday.

It's sitting in the parking lot of the TABU strip club. :D

I guess the club is closed after the last guy who left his kids in the car while he was getting a table dance.

The I-44 Expressway construction will make that car lot / strip club a memory soon.

The Rover was a 1997 and going for $3,400 I believe.

It looked like it was in pretty good shape.

I wonder if one of the old strippers is having to sell it? :D

Tata should re-badge Jaguars as the top end of their line and call them the "Bodacious Tata"
