Usually strep is the worst sore throat you'll ever have, some say it's like razor blades in the throat, white on the tonsils, sometimes fever and headache. Sometimes the throat looks normal. A swab will tell you. Ask yourself if this is a really bad sore throat, or just a little sore.

This thread has ESP.

It may be just a little sore. I just need to gargle with something to numb it probably.

take a lot of amoxycillin for about 3-4 days. you can essentially give it an antibiotic jihad and kill it.

Is there an easy way to know if I have strep or if it is just allergies?

If you have white bubbles forming in the back of your mouth (back towards your tonsils), then it's probably strep.

Especially if a fever accompanies the sore throat.

Yes there is, but it involves having your throat swabbed.

I think it may just be allergies, but it sure is sore.

Not going to touch it.

SBSB, you know your alergies better than any of us. If you think it's alergies, from previous experience, then it probably is. Otherwise, see a doctor.

i thought i had strep one time - not so. got tested at goddard for mono - came up negative for that and strep. next day... woke up to a pain and sight i have never seen. had a hole about the size of a dime to breath through, my uvula (thingy that hangs down) was pushed over and out of sight, and it looked like a golf ball was stuck in the roof of my mouth (back past the bone). turns out i had a tonsilar abscess. i wouldn't wish one of those on my worst enemy. had to get it drained. FUN FUN. lost 10 pounds in 4 days - hurt to drink water.

hopefully you don't get one of those, SBSB. good luck and hope you feel better.
