NormanPride and I just returned from the CBI second round game, TU hosting Utah. TU wins and will be hosting Houston on Wednesday :)

Game notes:
1- Utah was wearing some weird intramurals/throwback/practice jerseys.
2- TU is actually a very good team this year.
3- My new favorite chant for five fouls is following the evicted players feet "Left...Right...LeftRIGHTLEFTRIGHT........Left..... ..Right...... SIT DOWN!!!"
4- For a smaller arena, it sure can pack a lot of echo and noise. Something OU should take note of.
5- Utah has a scary large white center that will make a good future Greg Ostertag for the Jazz someday.
6- We need more fan support like this :(

I would take the Reynolds Center over the LNC any day.

Yeah, the RenCen is a great college hoop venue. The problem with the LNC is it's "multi-purpose", so while it's okay for many different event types, it's not great for any of them.

And HOORAY!! FINAL FOUR!!! :D

Just got back from the Bradley at Tulsa first game of the best of 3 championship series. Great crowd and atmosphere. Bradley down by 10 with a few minutes to go and put together a tremendous run but TU prevailed.

Good for TU, but some of their fans are trying to make this a bigger deal than making the NCAA/NIT.

bri

I find that hard to believe.

I think most TU fans realize they are not in the NCAA. They have been there many times including the the Sweet 16 and Elite 8.
But if you are in a tournament, any time, why not try to win it? And if the team and coach are trying to win it, what is wrong with the fans getting excited about it?

Last time our men hosted a post-season tournament game the atmosphere was incredible.

A few years ago I was in Lubbock at the same time OU was there for a baseball series. I went by to catch a game and the Raiders had a pretty good group of hecklers right behind home plate. They did that left-right thing anytime a coach would go to the mound or when a pitcher would get yanked. They had some other good stuff too...but what I loved the most was that on his third trip to the mound, our pitching coach was jogging out there and they were doing the "left-right-left-right" thing and he just paused for a second, then kept going. It threw off their heckle, and they gave him a standing ovation for it.

If I was a player headed to the bench in an arena that did the sit-down thing, I'd either fake my sit-down, or wait until right before their player shot his free throw.

Supporting your team no matter when/where they are playing is great and I'm all for it, but the "we're better because we're still playing and your team is at home" thing is a little ridiculous.

So, lemme guess. Someone who self-identififed as a TU fan made that statement to you, and it wasn't in jest?

Actually more than a couple of long-term TU fans and a neighbor that I'm not so sure about (in more ways than one).

Slow start (16-2 Bradley) led me to not post on here, but Tulsa reclaimed the lead in the second half. The game is now on, if you're Cox in Tulsa, it's channel 146. Boomer!

...I mean... Hurra???

8:58 left, TU leads 50-49.

LET'S GO 'CANE!!

Ball game, Tulsa wins the first ever College Basketball Invitational championship and the fans rush the court.

Heh. And yay!

I can hear them chanting from here:

We're 98th! We're 98th!

;)

bri
4/4/2008, 09:44 PM
I'm not delusional; I would give this title up in a heartbeat for a Sweet 16 spot. But, cliche as it sounds, only three teams get to end the postseason with a win, and we're one of 'em. WOOOOOOO!

Alternate post: Hey, look, I think Louisville just scored again. :D
