If only we'd take the time to sympathize with and understand the terrorists...

Historically speaking, after five years, and given the numbers of troops engaged, miraculously low casualties.

Also, those people did not die in vain. Their sacrifice helped pay the price for preventing another attack on US soil. Whatever else the administration and IRAQI FREEDOM is and was, it will go down in history as having successfully defended the US against follow-on terrorist attacks in the wake of 9/11...assuming no attack between now and this January.

Anybody know what the death toll for the same time period was in Washington, D.C.? New York City? Miami? Los Angeles?

We should throw in the numbers for 9/11 just for kicks.

I'm sorry; despite the fact that it's increasingly an unpopular opinion and I'm probably in a small minority at this point, I still cling to the belief that those lives have not been wasted. I've posted before why I feel this war was appropriate, although it's not for the reasons that the administration used/uses to publicly justify it.

And like Homey says, the number is exceedingly small compared to previous conflicts of this scale and type. But any way you slice it, it's a damn shame to lose 4,000 good Americans. War is truly teh succ.

Thanks to those who put themselves into harm's way to serve and protect America, and bless their families and friends.

I completely agree! Also, it is never brought up because they dont track it "officially" but ive heard estimates of 50,000-100,000 insurgents and terrorists that have been killed

I thought we had 4000 deaths long ago, maybe 6 months to a year ago.

I think it was 4000 deaths in the "war on terror" and not Iraq, I could be wrong though

although it isnt nice to hear or think about, the death toll isnt even a requisite number to realize the calamity of the injuries experienced by our boys there. the numbers for people who have been dismembered (leg, arm, eye etc) or permanently "injured" is in the 15,000 - 20,000 range. though it seems high, if you consider the rotation of people there, and assuming 2 visits (tours) amount to 2, then like a million people have been in and out of that sandbox since 2003. 5% serious/critical wound/injuries. sheer numbers say 0.5% have been killed. or , if you count the ratio to people who are currently there, then the death toll is still less than 3%. low numbers when you consider we lost 500,000 in ww2 where 1 in 20 people were combat soldiers.

Not to mention has there ever been a war such as this where they're not fighting soldiers as much as insurgents and suicide bomber types?

Our Country has believed for a long time that War is a healthy way to stimulate our economy. After numerous wars and conflicts abroad we have seen our Country flourish in the aftermath. It has cost many lives for our economic salvation.

We know the costs.

Our Leaders know the costs. At least I hope that they do. I've struggled with whether or not this Administration has involved our Country, in the current War, for economic gain while painting a picture of "Spreading Democracy" for the people of Iraq and a "War on Terror".

GW said something like "History will show our cause was a just cause".

I truely hope it does.

I just want those who have fought for what is right to come Home to a Country who Honors and respects the sacrifices they have endured. I see how this again has affected not only those who return but also their Families. We owe them our best to make sure that those who return Home "Not Whole" get the best treatment and if they need our help, I hope that each and every one of us rise to the occassion and help them.

I think about the folks who are scattered around the World protecting not only our Nation but the World from complete chaos.

That is a fight worth fighting IMO.

God Bless the fallen and give strength to those who have suffered a loss of a loved one.
