TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida baseball team lost the second game of the midweek series with the Oklahoma Sooners, 7-5, Wednesday night at Red McEwen Field.

Freshman Ryan Lockwood notched the Bulls' first triple of the year, a two-RBI shot in the fourth inning. Lockwood ended the game 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and one run scored.

Junior third baseman Brandon Smith was 3-for-4 in USF's eighth loss of the season, collecting three singles and chalking up two RBI. Junior Addison Maruszak was 3-for-5 while senior Joey Angelberger had three hits, one RBI and scored two runs. Both Maruszak and Angelberger had doubles in the game.

USF again posted some late game heroics, as USF produced three consecutive singles to score one run in the bottom of the ninth, but with two outs and the tying run on second base, junior Brian Hobbs sent a fly ball to center field to end the game.

On the mound, freshman LHP Junior Carlin was tagged with the loss in his first start of the season. Carlin, who struck out two, allowed five runs from six hits in 3.0 IP. Freshman Matt Stull came in for four innings of relief, striking out three of his 19 batters faced. Stull allowed one earned run from five hits.

Despite out-hitting the Sooners 12-10, USF drops to 10-8 this season while Oklahoma improves to 17-5.

After three innings of seeing the minimum number of batters step to the plate, USF collected four hits in the fourth inning to score two. Maruszak started the hit parade with a double, followed by a single from Angelberger and Lockwood's triple. Junior Brandon Smith singled to left field for the final hit of the inning, closing the score to 6-2.

Two frames later, the Bulls strung together three hits and a HBP to score one run. Maruzsak again led off the inning with a hit, this time a single to left field. Lockwood then sent a base hit to left center field and took second on the throw to third. Maruszak was thrown out trying to take third on the play. Junior Brian Hobbs took a pitch in the back then Smith singled to right field, driving in Lockwood for his 14th RBI of the season.

In the eighth the Bulls looked to chip into the Sooner lead, when with one out, USF scored one run, but the Bulls left two on base with back-to-back short fly outs to end the inning.
