Pioneering science fiction author of the 2001 and Rama series, among many, many others.

Rendezvous with Rama was his best, IMO.

:(

I think I mentioned in a post a couple of years back when my grandfather passed on that he and Clarke were friends and corresponded regularly.

I never have gotten around to reading the Rama books, but I really enjoyed 2001, 2010, and 3001.

Rama is great, but I suggest you stop after the first one. The last two are really, really bad (IMO).

The board software screws it up, it seems.

Perhaps HAL is running things?

Apparently Clarke didn't actually write the others, just Rendezvous.

Let me put it this way, Mr. Crawfish. The 9000 series is the most reliable computer ever made. No 9000 computer has ever made a mistake or distorted information. We are all, by any practical definition of the words, foolproof and incapable of error.
