I know it's been around and all but what would be wrong with using OC?

Also, have you noticed that when you fly from either coast to OC that the pilots and stewardess; call us "Oak City." I kinda dig it. The OC Thunderbirds?

Thunderbirds is not bad, but reminds me of the lake too much. Nasty lake.
The chance of a pregame helicopter flyover of Dirtybird is just too great...

I think the military connection and the Native American connection have moved it up the list with some municipal leaders.

I was curious as to why the 45th Division members used shoulder patches with Thunderbirds on them to identify themselves and I quickly learned why. The 45th Division was, at one time, the National Guard unit of both Arizona and Oklahoma. As populations grew, the 45th Division became the Oklahoma National Guard under control of the Oklahoma governor. A majority of the division's guardsmen were of Indian descent and, for this reason, they adopted an Indian sign, the swastika, as their emblem. When Hitler began the use of the swastika to identify his Nazi organization, the 45th Infantry Division immediately changed its emblem to another Indian sign, the Thunderbird.
I found it very interesting that there are two Indian swastikas, one of which is the reverse (mirror) of the other. One is the good luck sign and the other is bad luck. The 45th Division had used the good luck sign but Hitler, without knowing anything about Indian lore, chose the bad luck sign of the Indians.

I've got no problem with Thunderbirds. Can't say it has me turning cartwheels, but it doesn't bother me. "OC," on the other hand...

OUT.

Disagree. KC sounds like a bunch of OKC knockoffs. Besides, OC makes us sound like a bunch of Orange County knockoffs trying to imitate a lame soap opera for kiddos. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

OC is Orange County and "Oak City" makes my skin crawl. I like OKC just fine.Same here. When I was at OBU, someone from another state asked me where there was a movie theatre in "Oak City." I told her I had no idea because I had never been to Oak City. I wasn't trying to be funny, I had just never heard it called that.

OK City is more accurate if you want to say OC. but it just doesnt really work. oak is a completely different word than ok. then people will come here thinking theyll be adorned with a trepid blessing of oak trees.

All known as the "Kansas City _________" not the "KC___________" But why would it matter anyway? New Jersey teams don't change their names just because New York also has "new" in their name. It's silly. Oklahoma City has been OKC for generations.

"OC" is currently probably more famous, at least in pop culture terms, due to the lame-o show of the same name. If I lived in another city and saw Oklahoma City suddenly calling itself "OC," I'd laugh.

Why create problems that don't exist in the first place? Leave it alone.

I don't know if they still do it, but the Tulsa World used to refer to Oklahoma City as "OC" in headlines. I always thought that was weird because it took me a second to figure out what it meant.

"Oak City" is just as annoying as when dumb *** sports announcers refer to Oklahoma State as "Oak State."

Yeah, the Tulsa World still refers to OKC as OC.

That's reason enough for me to keep calling it OKC.

Damn Eastsiders.

And M, you should be glad the announcers are mentioning your school at all. ;)

5 Oklahoma
6 Texass
7 S. Carolina
8 Alabama

I'm not a big fan of bbq from the SE United States. Too sweet. I really DO prefer bbq from this region, prolly because I grew up here. But KC bbq is outstanding too. I will say this: the last few times I've been up there, all the people in KC could talk about was Oklahoma Joe's. Hottest bbq joint in KC.
