Is anyone interested in doing a Relay this year. Team South Oval/Soonerfans?

I have been running a ton and have been looking forward to this event, but I don't think I can run half marathon by myself. I am currently running 3 miles a day/ 5 days a week and I could go longer, but I don't.

For you runners out there want would I need to be running now ( 46 days out ) to be able to complete a half marathon without dying or stopping.

On the another note they do have the Marathon Relay.

This is a 5 person relay

This 5-Person Relay follows the Eikeden format (see notes at bottom *)

1st Leg – 10km/6.2 miles
2nd Leg – 5km/3.1 miles
3rd Leg – 12km/7.6 miles
4th Leg – 5km/3.1 miles
5th Leg – 10km/6.2 miles

I know I could do any of the long legs. If I could get 4 more guys to also run.

I need solid comments tho because I really wanna do this.

So Dean, Jimminy, Boarder, Howzit....any of you guys wanna do this with me. Let me know.

We have 46 days.

If you are currently running 15 miles per week (3 miles X 5 days), you can do the half no problem. Just start running fewer days (3 or 4) and stretch your long run on the weekend gradually up to 12 miles (or close thereto). The Runner's World "Smart Coach" site should help your plan:

Smart Coach 7 Week Plan (http://www.runnersworld.com/cda/smtcresults/0,7144,s6-238-277-278-0-0-0-0-0,00.html?hour=0&mins=26&secs=0&rlen=fivk&rdst=half4&mpwe=11&startf=123xyz&diff=mod&lrdy=6&slen=7&trainstart=ds1205183955319&metr=miles)

Ok guys Here is the deal. If we are going to do a relay we need one more person (If Boarder is commited) Finding one more asap is my biggest concern.

Then we need to know who is going to run what.

So far the team is

Vk - She is running one of the 2 short legs, that leaves us with 1
Jimminy
Dolemite- I will run a long leg. I would like to run the 7 mile leg or the last 6 mile leg
Boarder (I think he is in)

Come on peps we need one more I have ran out of people to ask.

Well it's a little late in the game, but y'all should seriously check out The Maffetone Method. I've dropped 40 lbs doing it, but I couldn't give a **** about my times.

If you get serious about it, you can reduce your per-mile time quite dramatically. Dr. Maffetone has trained tons of world-class ultra marathoners and triathletes to much lower best times through his method. The grooviest thing about it is that you train at a much slower pace than what you think you need to. It pretty much shoots the "no pain no gain" dealio in the ***.

You know, the course is so stupid. It runs right in front the OU hospital complex. It looks like they could reroute the dang thing away from the hospitals. At least my misses is off this weekend and won't have to deal with getting to work.

Well this was my bible and it worked great I had never ran more than a 5k and this got me prepared for this. There is all kinds of info all over the web.

Basicly you need to know what type of event you wanna run in and build yourself up.

For those of you interseted. There are multiple articles in the daily Oklahoman that are pretty good about the marathon. One is by Jenni Carlson, and I dislike her most of the time, but the was a good article.

I think I will email her and tell her good job.

Dman I am in a good mood. You would think I got laid last night or something. :)

I like seeing Doleo all revved up.

Not to **** on your parade, but any half-way healthy 20-something young person oughta be able to run a 10K without a problem. I'm amazed by the number of young folks who go "wtf? run 6 miles? are you kidding? I would die." Then they go back upstairs and sit down with a pizza and a Dr. Pepper and start playing their nintendo.

Good for all you guys who left the ****ing gameboy at home and went out and ran.

You ain't ****ing on my parade, Dean. I'm a lot closer to 40-something than 20-something, I didn't really train and I'm out-of-shape as all get out from being a big, chocolate mojito-eatin' lazy-a** over the winter. If I can run a 5K anyone can run a 5K. That's why I'm determined to do a 10K next, because that's something I'm going to have to work at.

dolemitesooner

Listen this is all I am saying. 1 year ago I was "eating Pizza and playing gameboy" as Dean calls it. Now I eat chicken, vegtables, and fruit. Instead of "gameboying" it up I workout, run, and stay very active. Yeah most 20 somethings should be able to run a 10k (I ran a 12k BY THE WAY ****ER :) ), but they cant because they are ****ing lazy.

Running a 12k in the time I did is something about maybe 20% of the people I know at my age can do. I am now addicted to running and I am going to train even more and do a ton more of this ****.

So give me a god damn cookie

Considering some guy started pulling his oxygen tank on a trailer at 4:30 a.m. and finished the 26.2 mile course 8 hours later, yes, I think just about anyone should be able to get er done....albeit slowly.

We need someone to hand out beers during the last mile or two like they do at the Whiterock in Dallas. Either that or spike the Powerade with some Grey Goose.
