Teh wife just got a new laptop. I know there are some people here who know a bit about antivirus, spyware, etc. stuff. What products are best? I'm not interested in the Norton anymore because I'm not a retard.

AVG is what I use on my home computer. And it's free.

me too. no problems on this machine. i ran Trojan Hunter (not freeware) the other day on a 30 day trial and it came up with nothing.

spybot or adaware are also good freeware for spyware.

I'm not real smart and whatnot. How does the router help protect; does it serve as a firewall? Our setup is cable --> router --> hardwired to our desktop and wireless to laptop.

Also the new computer has Vista -- anyone know how good its firewall, etc. are?

i would think the Vista firewall is ok, i'm not sure though.

the router puts you on a local network that isn't directly connected to the internet. unless you open ports and forward them, there isn't a way to directly connect to your computer, unless your router is pwn3d

AVG stamp of approval here. I've never had a single problem with it.

And Vista's firewall is fine.

I use AVG at work and home (for about 2 years at home). It works great.

AVG it is, then.

But only b/c Froz said so. Not OUDoc.

OUDoc is strictly on hand for lortab. And MSContin. But that's it.

And dilaudid.

I was using AVG for awhile, also McAfee.

I started using Regacure for about a year too.

If you'd have taken my advice at 8:00 you wouldn't have all those virii you already got, waiting for Mike to reply.

unplug from internet = no chance of virii. unless you whack to porn, and you have an std that could be transmitted through the keyboard or the monitor via an ejaculation.

Word. I have Vista and use AVG...it's been great.
I started using it after a few of you on here told me about it. No complaints whatsoever
