View Full Version : I was let go

Penguin

I had the greatest job in the world and they let me go.

Luckily, I was given a great severance package, so I should be ok for a few months.

I blame no one but myself. The reasons they gave me were totally bogus. But, in Texas, you can be fired for just looking funny.

Anybody know of any job openings?

Oh man. That sucks.

You looked at the weather center on campus? Seems like there would be room for one more there.

I have been in 2 car accidents and I have had 3 concussions in the past month. My speech is slurred. I'm sure they thought I was drunk all of the time.

Even a note from my doctor won't save me.

I have been an aviation meteorologist for 10 years. I have been a manager for 1 year. There are 5 major competitors that are based in Houston, so I will probably get a job with one of them.

Hopefully, I will get a job soon, but I must expect a major pay cut.

Hrm.

If you were let go because your speech was slurred due to injury, you have cause of action regardless of whether Texas is an "at-will" state or not. Even if they said it was for another reason, if you can prove that it was due to your injury, you can nail 'em to the wall pretty good.

Unless, of course, clear speech is provably necessary to your job.

That sucks to hear man, best of luck to landing on your feet.

That's what I'm wondering too.

Anyway, a great severance package should set you up for several years, NOT a few months.

This sucks and good luck in the job hunting department.

Seriously Penguin...Sorry to hear.

It's their loss.

Are you elligible for re-hire once they figure out they screwed up?

Best news. I was contacted by my car insurance company and they said they are dropping me like a hot potato.

So, now I guess I get to pay the highest insurance rates. Yipee!

Best week of my life, ma! Best week of my life!

Don't go applying to Impact Weather - we (myself and another non-in the field working meteorologist) make fun of their off the wall and their "Mike Morgan-like" forecasts to my company. Oh, and with your slurred speech - you could do the UH-PBS NPR weathercasts...;)

Sorry about the job, but it sounds like you might have a grievance should you wish to go that route.
