As someone who goes to Mavs games 5 or 6 times a year, I hope they do something that rivals the show you get at AAC

Yeah, it's no rush.

When your state has one MLS team, two NFL teams and two MLB teams, it's only a matter of time. Personally, I'd rather have a second NHL team before a NBA team.

I get your point though but KC is a BBall town more so than a Hockey town. One Friend of mine up there jokes with me, with much sincere disdain, "We're a hurricane away from having an NBA team." ;)

You guy's will probably get the Hornet's in a couple of years, not a bad deal.

I can't tell you guys how happy I am this worked out. It's still not a fait acomplis but this really has been the result of about 10 people's vision but really more like 50, plus the voters. Imagine if Jim Tolbert had been elected Mayor instead of Mick. Wow, life in OKC is good.

BigRedJed
3/6/2008, 10:54 PM
Gotta tell you, knowing and having worked with both the Mayor and Jim Tolbert, I think we would be doing equally well in some other area had Jim been elected. Both of those guys were equally committed to keeping OKC headed in the right direction. Jim is a really, really solid guy, savvy businessman, understands what MAPS has done for OKC from firsthand experience, plus just has a great love for OKC.

That said, we most def would not be on the map for the NBA. Mick's vision and persistence with David Stern is the ONLY reason we're on that track, and I think it's a great track for us to be on. He has not disappointed me one bit as mayor. He's doing a great job.

There aren't any guarantees. I've been saying for quite a while that the court case is the one pivotal piece to the puzzle. If the court finds for the OKC owners, they will almost 100% bring the Sonics here, at this point. But if they're held to their lease, a lot can happen between now and 2010.

Yeah, but I think Jim is head and shoulders above those guys as far as horsepower. And I'm saying that as someone who was really friendly with Guy when he was on the council.

Jim's just really quiet about it. He is EXTREMELY respected in the business community. Smart, smart dude.

I'm really close with Guy now, at the legislature. I love the guy. He's one of a kind. I owe him a lot in my life and I doubt he really eve knows it. What do you expect from a GUY who made millions selling ice to Eskimos.

He wasn't a Walton or married to a Walton daughter like Kronke. David Glass was the CEO of WM from 1988 to 2000.
