My neighbor has a used scooter. I'm thinking about buying it for my wife but I really have no idea what its worth. Is there anywhere that has a price guide for used scooters? I think it is a 2005 Stella.

You might check out the Scooter BBS (http://www.scooterbbs.com/bbs/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=1), or Stella Speed (http://www.stellaspeed.com/). Scooters of that type retain their value quite well. If it's a 2005 Stella, it probably retailed for around $3100, and if it's in good shape could still be worth most of that. There was also an Atomic Fireball (different gearing and graphics) edition that model year, and a limited edition British racing green version. Both were a little bit pricier than the base model.

Except in the case of rough condition, that scoot is probably worth somewhere between $2200 and $2800.

They stopped building Stellas in '06 (labor dispute in India at LML, the company that manufactured them), which would probably help the resale value, but they just re-introduced it this year (limited production). Not sure what that will do to prices. Probably not a whole lot. Could even make it worth more, as the new scooters on the street may stoke the scooter bug in the public.

I have a 2004 Stella that I bought in late 2005 with about 500 miles on it. The guy who bought it new put on an extra chrome package rack, a Sito Plus pipe and had it re-jetted. I highly recommend this, BTW. I have yet to find a Stella that keeps up with me, and I can almost keep up with most Vespa P200e scoots. The modifications are probably worth around $400.

He had dropped it, and traded it into the shop I bought it from for another new one. They painted one cowl. The legshield had some chipped paint, as did the front fender. Mostly unnoticible. I gave $2200 for it, and everyone that I tell that to who should be in the know is pretty surprised by how cheap I picked it up.

This thread is full of more fail than a doleo-taught English class.

I suspect that you and I define "fail" quite differently...

Why did I find this so funny? I mean laugh out loud funny?
BTW, isn't a bored out scooter just a motorcycle with small wheels?;)

Hmm... ...maybe because you've never ridden a scooter at 65 MPH? Or seen one go 95? 10" wheels on a twisty mountain road is a lot more fun than you might think. And riding one on city streets is more fun than most motorcycles I've ever been on. The main place I'd prefer to ride a large bike is on the highway, and I rarely do highway riding.

I think it is either an 05 or 06 model. It has scratches on both sides like it has been layed over at least twice but no major dents. I think I can get it for about $1000. It has about 400 miles on it! It looks like I may be a scooter owner soon!

if the engine is good who cares about the scratches?

layed over twice?

Im having a bit of trouble thinking about buying the wife a machine that can skid down the road sideways with no airbags to protect her.

Perhaps it comes with a "Boy In The Bubble" option?

Dude, if that bike doesn't have major damage on it, runs good, and truly has 400 miles on it, BUY IT. Then turn around and sell it for a $1000+ profit. Srsly.
