SETTING THE STAGE: Saturday morning's game is the opening game of the ACHA D1 National Championship Tournament here in snowy, cold Rochester, New York...Sixteen teams have converged upon Rochester to compete for the crown of the ACHA D1 division, the Murdoch Cup...This will be the third time that the Sooners have faced Oakland...During the 2004-2005 season, Oakland (then a D2 team) traveled to Oklahoma City to face the Sooners...Oklahoma won the first game 4-2 while the Grizzlies exacted a measure of revenge the next night with a 4-2 victory of their own against OU.




OKLAHOMA NOTES: The Sooners arrived in Rochester this morning and skated for about an hour this afternoon at the ESL Sports Centre...The Sooners have scored 189 goals this year; 74 were scored while on the power play...OU has seven players who have scored 11 or more goals...Up front for the Sooners, forward Kyle Allan (Flagstaff, AZ) leads Oklahoma with 27 goals, eleven of which were scored on the power play...Forward Owen Brewer (Kenai, AK) has scored 19 goals this season with nine power play goals...On the Sooners defense, blueliner Austin Miller (Dallas, TX) has recorded five goals and 26 assists this season...Sooners goaltender Rob Mattison (Bartlesville, OK) has posted a 2.72 goals against average with one shutout while fellow netminder Chad Helgason (Woodbury, MN) has a 3.09 GAA...The Countdown to Nationals: A little over 12 hours from now.



OAKLAND NOTES: Head Coach Sean Hogan and his excellent Grizzlies squad have the unique opportunity to win three consecutive ACHA National Titles...Oakland won the ACHA Division 2 National Championship in 2006 here in Rochester and last season won the ACHA Division I Championship in Youngstown, Ohio...Oakland is led in scoring by senior forward Brent Cooper who has 25 goals and 24 assists for 49 total points...Following Cooper in points for the Grizzlies are freshman forward Kevin Kranker (17-11-28), freshman defenseman Tony Yearego (9-13-22) and freshman defenseman Todd Orlando (8-14-22)...Oakland's No. 1 goaltender is sophomore Collin Chase who has a 3.07 goals against average in almost 1300 minutes of action.
