1) He said he would bomb Al Qaida and Taliban strongholds and training grounds in the mountainous regions of NWern Pakistan (You know, like when Dick Armitage told them the same thing after 09/11.). He didn't say he was going to bomb the streets of Karachi. If Musharraf doesn't seem interested in doing anything about it what's the answer? If Musharraf knows about it and won't do anything to stop it, how else do you handle it?

2) I know you're a tad hawkish, but Diplomacy is NOT a 4 letter word. ;)

3) A sticking point for me as well. Although I think the entire healthcare system is flawed, I don't know that his plan is the best one. But what is? What's the fix? Maybe if he makes a push at making this happen, some sort of rational compromise will come of it.

4) 60 days, 60 months, 60 years. It won't get better. Blaming Obama for the mess that is Iraq is about as short-sighted as it gets. I fall somewhere between 60 days and 100 years myself, but I do tire of this protracted, seemingly endless conflict and would think, given your situation you would hope for an end as well.

Everyone mocked him for this. But wait, all you Bush fans out there! Didn't we just launch a predator attack in the mountains of Pakistan killing a high ranking taliban leader without telling the Pakistani government we were going to...

2) I know you're a tad hawkish, but Diplomacy is NOT a 4 letter word. ;)

It is staring to seem that it has become one. But this foreign policy is just a mirror of our current domestic policy. "I am right, you are wrong, there is NO middle ground, NO compromise!

3) A sticking point for me as well. Although I think the entire healthcare system is flawed, I don't know that his plan is the best one. But what is? What's the fix? Maybe if he makes a push at making this happen, some sort of rational compromise will come of it.

While I don't support the idea whole-heartedly, at least he has a plan that includes a fix of our health care system that doesn't force every US citizen to buy into it

Really, it isn't getting better. You know how sometimes when someone is in a coma on life support they come down to the final option of taking them off life support in an attempt to shock or force the body back into breathing on its own? We are there. We either pull the cord, or expect our grandchildren to continue to pay for this sick man's medical bills

5) Donks always talk about increasing social programs. Just like Pubs talk about No New Taxes.

READ MY LIPS!!! Oh, wait... There are people out there who are saying that the coming rescission might be pretty d@mn bad. Maybe a few social programs to act as safety nets wouldn't be a bad idea. Seemed to work for some ole boy bout 70 years ago. I know it is falling apart now, but 70 years of corrupt politicians poking at something has a way of eroding things.

Twisted as it may be, I know you are not alone. Politics in this country have become "IF I can't win, then the winner sure as hell ain't getting anything done!"

It is pretty sad really, to bad no one saw this kind of divisive politics coming before hand...

I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.

This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.

Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight), the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.

It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.

There is an opinion that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the government and serve to keep alive the spirit of liberty. This within certain limits is probably true; and in governments of a monarchical cast, patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency, it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose. And there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be by force of public opinion, to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume.

Hey, I'm not saying Jerk's point is somehow seriously accurate. I think he's using tongue-in-cheek humorous exaggeration to make the point that taxation can reach a point where it is thoroughly onerous, and makes you wonder why you're putting in so much hard work JUST for the common good, rather than your OWN good.

Yeah, I get it. It's just that even at their most onerous, American tax rates have never been such that it's preferable to be on welfare because of the tax rate.

So much for your assertion that it's Democrats crossing over that are pushing McCain to the win.Mike, you don't seem to want to look at the whole picture on a lot of the arguments you make-this one for example. You're not accounting for voter fraud of all kinds, bullying people into letting you vote(registering as a republican while at the polls), but mostly liberals legally registering as republicans simply to vote for the poorest(most liberal) republican candidates.
I contend the democrats don't really care whether it's Hellery or Obama, just as long as it's a democrat. Also, they won't be nearly as upset if mcCain wins than they would be if a more conservative candidate were to win.

Voter fraud?

Bullying people into letting you vote?

Are you kidding me?

Your argument is beyond weak and delves into flat-out ludicrous.

Tell you what-come in with some actual evidence that there was widespread voter fraud or a statistically significant number of Democrats who switched party simply to vote for McCain, and I'll listen to what you're saying.

The fact is that John McCain has won 9 out of 12 closed primaries.

The fact is that he absolutely crushed Mitt Romney.

If you can come up with some proof that there was widespread changes in registration to vote for McCain as the "weakest candidate" even though his national polling numbers far exceed any of the other Republican candidates, let's see it.

So, you are saying that, in Cali for example, 5,000,000 Democrats showed up to sway a primary election, and the Republicans couldn't even manage 1,000,000? If that is the case friend, then the Republican party may as well roll over and accept its fate. That would mean that only 20% of voters where genuinely Republicans. Does it tell you something when 80% of a state doesn't like you?

This transplanted Okie has already voted in the Texas primary for Barack Obama. And just yesterday the Lubbock paper endorsed Obama over Clinton although it was a luke-warm endorsement which is to be expected in this extremely conservative part of Texas.

IT SEEMS AMAZING a candidate with no more experience than eight years as an Illinois state senator and slightly more than three years in the U.S. Senate is getting serious consideration for our highest office.

But the man of whom we speak is no ordinary candidate.

Barack Obama

Mr. Obama is blessed with exceptionally good communication skills and possesses a charisma rarely seen in the world of politics.

One of the attributes a president must have is the ability to inspire people, and Mr. Obama has amply shown that ability.

What he says resonates with the electorate. It is nice to see so many young people getting interested in politics and excited by a politician.

Hillary Clinton, the senator and wife of a two-term president, was once seen as having a clear track to the Democratic nomination until Obama gained speed.

Our favoring him is not to say we agree with all his policies and views on issues, although we're more comfortable with his health care plan than Clinton's. At this point, we'd prefer John McCain over Obama or Clinton.

For people picking a Democratic candidate in this primary, we're impressed how Mr. Obama sees our nation not as red and blue states but as purple states.

If elected, much like McCain, he has a better chance of pulling the nation together than his opponent.

If you're concerned about his lack of experience, don't vote for him ... but he displays smarts and skills making us believe he can handle the job.

Wrong... she was whining about Obama getting treated better by the media in general.

She was also implying that the media is not afraid to say negative things about women but they are very afraid of looking bigoted or prejudiced against blacks.

This is what scares the hell out of conservatives, they don't want McCain to run against a democratic candidate that can't be criticized easily.

Here is an interesting article from the hometown newspaper, Chicago Sun Times. Knowing something like this wouldn't be in USA Today, the Washington Post or NY Times, I figured some more spice would liven up this thread: LINK (http://www.suntimes.com/news/sweet/823939,CST-NWS-sweet04.article)

Obama talks a lot, but answers little
PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN | Senator hounded by Rezko questions
March 4, 2008
LYNN SWEET blogs.suntimes.com/sweet
SAN ANTONIO -- As Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) closed a combative press conference on Monday, where he was thrown seriously off message being asked about influence peddler Tony Rezko and why his campaign at first denied his economic adviser Austan Goolsbee met the Canadian consul in Chicago and talked about NAFTA, some reporters -- me included -- wanted him to take more questions.
"Guys," said Obama, who is campaigning on a platform that there should be more government transparency. "I mean come on. I just answered like eight questions," he said as he waved and left to a chorus of shouted questions.
I could see why Obama wanted to wrap it up. On the day before crucial votes in Ohio, Texas, Rhode Island and Vermont that could make him the Democratic presidential nominee, Obama, for the first time in his campaign, was facing two potential landmines.
It was just Obama's luck that by coincidence on this particular day he had a contingent of Chicago journalists to deal with who are not, well, shy because we have covered Obama for years. I was there, as well as Sun-Times political columnist Carol Marin and CBS2 political reporter Mike Flannery.
Rezko's federal corruption trial started Monday, and there are still basic questions Obama and his campaign have not answered about their relationship. Rezko was an Obama fund-raiser who figures in the deal that let the Obamas buy their Kenwood home.
Let's leave aside a running disagreement over whether Obama will sit down with the Chicago investigative reporters who are most familiar with the details of the Rezko story. Monday was a new day.
At this press conference, Obama was asked specifically a few of the more simple questions about his relationship with Rezko, including how many fund-raisers he hosted (one has been reported), who attended these fund-raisers and would he disclose the closing documents for his home.
At first he made it seem it had all been asked and answered. But I was at the one press conference he referred to -- in Waukegan in November 2006 before the election, just after the initial wave of stories came out on the house deal. (I reposted the Waukegan transcript on my blog.)
"You may still have questions, which I am happy to answer," Obama said to Marin, adding it is not fair to "suggest somehow" he has been trying to hide something.
Soon after he said, "If there is a specific question that you have, Carol, I'll be happy to respond to it."
Obama added as the press conference progressed, "If there are specific requests in terms of information that you feel that you don't yet have, we will be happy to talk about that."
And then there was the fourth happy. "If there is a specific question that you have, I am happy to respond to it."
For all the happy talk, nothing was forthcoming on Monday.

Hillary would stomp on the necks of invalid nuns to get the nomination.

Or so I'm told.

But seriously if Obama could win Pennsylvania it would likely be over. He'll win in NC and Indiana soon after the Pennsylvania primaries and she'd be too far gone at that point to stay in. But she being the cockaroach she is will win in Penn., and then start filing lawsuit after lawsuit to try and get the FL. and MI. delegates. She (not Rush) will tear this party apart for her own gain.
