View Full Version : Why is Ginger Ale so popular with Airlines?

Let me preface this by saying I've went 5.5 round trips flying in my life to date. However, on the various airlines I've flown Ginger Ale is available from the beverage service. I've never really seen people drink Ginger Ale outside of flights, and it is the only time I drink. Of course, Ginger Ale may be way more popular than I realize, but it seems to be overrepresented on air travel in my limited experience. Am I imagining this whole thing?

Ginger ale is awesome. Find yourself some microbrewed ginger beer at a grocery store.

Good Ginger Ale is teh win. You have tummy issues, quit questioning and drink it - it'll help.

The Caribbean Ginger Beer is excellent- mix it 50/50 with Gosling's and you have a Dark and Stormy. WHICH RAWKS.

real ginger ale or ginger beer is awesome. the one they have at St. Andrews is killer. and somehow without the high fructose corn syrup?

but, the question as to the airlines is fair enough. kinda weird.

ginger also helps alleviate/prevent motion sickness.

As Sooneron stated, ginger ale will settle a queazy stomach for those inclined to motion sickness. That's what I'm guessing.

Ginger Ale and Bloody Mary Mix are the best drink options to get while flying.

The end.

Yeah, you know, I tend to drink a lot of tomato juice on flights as well.

Another popular choice. Although somehow, I hate tomato juice, but love Bloody Mary Mix.

Ginger itself is a nausea remedy, not just for motion sickness. Pregnant pukers and chemo patients take it too. I had a tendency to barf a lot when I was pregnant with both my kids, I discovered ginger with the second one and by golly it worked.

Mmmm. Ginger snaps.

Well, not about the pregnancy part. I've never been pregnant.

Just as a historical aside, I was attending OU during both pregnancies, and I barfed all over campus. I would be walking between Copeland and Dale and BLEEEGGGHHH just right there in any convenient shrubbery. Unfortunately, this was before they built the lovely new Focker J-School, so I was unable to vomit on anything Gaylord-related. Darn it.

Gingerbread cookies, anyone?

Hey, I saw a kid from A&M doing the same thing at a game in Norman a few years ago. I wonder if he was preggers too.

Maybe it was some sort of sheep cloning experiment gone horribly wrong.

Are you sure it was a dude? Could it have been a regurgitated list of some sort?

I don't know. I snapped this picture:

Kinda what I was thinking. Maybe he ate a baby. It's SORTA like being pregnant.

On a semi-related note: my favorite cocktail is called a vodka (Goose) press. It's an old drink that was originally known as a Presbyterian. These days it's vodka, soda, 7. But back in the day you used ginger ale instead of the 7. I think the point is that it's clear, odorless and relatively taste-free, so it could pass for something besides a cocktail.

Story time!

My best friend in high school had this dog named Sebastian and one day I fed it a bunch of Ginger Snaps. Well this did not set too well with the dog as you know Ginger is a natural sedative. The dog would not get up from its bed. It just laid there and did nothing for a day or so.

My buddy's dad was none to happy if you didn't guess and they ended up taking the dog to the vet. When the doc checked him out the discovered the dog had also been been bitten by Brown Recluse. Come to find out their house had a problem with the little bugger. So instead of kicking my *** my friend's dad thanked me for saving their lives. My dumbness saved some lives whadaya know?

....and scene!
