Depends on what you're looking for...

For the mid-range (Holiday Inn Express, etc.), any of them on the west side of town would be good. There are several along Wanamaker Rd with a bunch of places to eat, shopping, etc.

For a more up-scale place, the Capital Plaza Hotel at 17th and Topeka is nice, but there is not a lot around it.

The words 'good' and 'Topeka' do not belong in the same thread.

I've stayed at the Hampton Inn on the north side of town a couple of times. It was nice enough.

Is there any place to get a decent meal there? Please note: I am NOT referring to Chili's or anything chain of the like.

One thing you can tell your friends about Topeka. It looks just like Anchorage, AK. Without the drunken eskaindians.

i'm not older than Dave Grohl, and i've known that song my whole life. and Elton. Honkey Chateau was one of the first records i remember my mom and pop putting on the hi-fi turnable.

i really like Almost Famous but i'm not a huge Cameron Crowe fan, to be honest. some of the stuff he wrote in the 90's about "grunge" over-simplified so much and people ate it up. he wrote some really stupid stuff in RS. and Singles is a terrible film that is supposed to be "generation defining".

Singles sucks. except for Citizen Dick.

I can't put my finger on Singles except it did not apply to me. And I was single!
It was sorta like that Ben Stiller/Winona/Ethan flick that took place in Houston. I felt like I must have missed some huge lame thing.

reality bites

singles was a yuppie movie. not the alt-indie flick they made it out to be.

like i implied, Cameron Crowe is more baby boomer than ever bought double nickels on the dime on vinyl on SST.

That's it!

Te best part of Singles is AIC playing the club where Campbell Scott meets Mrs. Kevin Bacon.

The state always puts us in the ClubHouse Inn & Suites - not a bad place at all. And they have an "evening manager's reception" aka free booze. :D

Most everything around Wanamaker is chain...for something different:

Mexican Food
Tacos El Mexicano, 2002 SE California Ave (east side of town)
Pepe & Chela's, 1001 SW Tyler (downtown)

Indian
GLOBE Indian Cuisine, 117 S.E. 10th Street (downtown), if you like Indian, this will be some of the best you've ever had.

Thai Food
TupTim, 2949 S Kansas Ave (south side of town)

BBQ (and before the KC people chime in, yes, I know KC has better BBQ)
Henry's Grill, 2047 SW Topeka Blvd. (central Topeka in Harley Davidson), limited hours and menu, but very good meat and cheesy potatoes
Boss Hawg's, 2833 SW 29th (south central/almost southwest)

Italian
Paisano's Ristorante, 4043 SW 10th Avenue (west central Topeka)

Micro-brew
The Blind Tiger, 1100 SW 25th Street (south side of town)

Japanese

Homestyle
Annie's Place, 4014 Gage Center Drive (west central Topeka)
Banjo's, 5824 SW Topeka Blvd (south side) limited hours
