Report: Indiana Has Told Kelvin Sampson He's Done as Basketball Coach
Posted Feb 21st 2008 2:11PM by Michael David Smith
Filed under: Indiana Basketball, Big Ten Basketball, NCAA Basketball Coaches

Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports is reporting that Kelvin Sampson was informed early today that he will no longer be the head basketball coach at Indiana.

Although an Indiana spokesman responded to the report by saying, "I don't know that to be true" and said that no official announcement is scheduled, Goodman reports that the official announcement will come Friday, at the end of the university's seven-day investigation into allegations that Sampson repeatedly violated NCAA rules.

The firing of Sampson is probably the end not only of his Indiana career but also his NCAA coaching career. It will be hard to see any school giving Sampson a third chance after he broke NCAA rules at both Oklahoma and Indiana.

Well, what was the motto of Indy's football team?

PLAY 13.

I think Kelvin can make football players play 13 (although winning that 13th game is another matter, thank you, sister school of stilly). It's all about execution and play calling.

Kelvin executed the basketball team's chances of success by calling the players too much!

Heard on sports talk radio yesterday over here that he'll receive 750k to leave and if he agrees not to sue the university.
Maybe some lower tier school will pick him up and then he'll try to hire one of his buddies, Mark Gottfried, our current embattled coach that 95% of our fan base wants gone....

Quite often, people do not go beyond the football page, but this event and the perception of Kelvin spills over onto the whole Oklahoma program, especially in light of the Football program and Basketball program here being placed on probation the last two years.
