I'll have to post some of my before pictures another day. At the moment I'm too disgusted by them to show them to anyone but myself for motivation.
I'm sore from running, but the diet really isn't that bad.

Give me some motivation and inspiration.

I'm 6 foot, and I weigh 235 lbs with a 43 inch waist.
It's time to get both numbers down and see a six pack in a few months.

Patience and best wishes to you. The wife and I are on fat jihads. I am down 6lbs since early January. I want to lose 20.

Man, that's weird. I'm an inch shorter than you, weigh as much or maybe a couple of pounds more, and have a smaller waist.

And no, I don't do the hillbilly buckle-the-tight-jeans-below-the-giant-belly thing. Do you let your pants ride up unusually high? Or is one of us shaped really funny?

The plan is for this to be moot in 3 months. Sorry Olevet, but I really want this for my energy and my health. Also, we Mormons don't drink, so there's no fun in having a beer gut with no beer contributing to the mass.

I did BFL back in 2003 and I was very very happy with the results.

I can't wait to hear about your free day (eating) in about 4 weeks. Once your body makes the decision it doesn't like fat and grease anymore....good times.

Day 5 actually, so the second upper body work out was this morning. I'm starting to see where I can step up the weights, and I also see some of my limits. Yesterday was hell on my legs after 2 days of running and 1 day of squats/lunges/deadlifts and other lower body training. Saturday is our designated free day so we'll do cardio and diet on Sundays for the next 12 weeks. I get excited when I think of all the fat that's soon to be melting away.
PS: Per the diet, I had a portion of Stake and Potatoes just now. Atkins can stick it. :D I'm on my 5th cup of water. This is a good diet.
I may post some pictures today. It'll be me fat but fully clothed.

My Salvation Snack on this Diet (I think my wife converted it from Weight Watchers)
2 Tubs of Cool Whip Light
2 Cans of Pumpkin (Not the Pie mix)
1 Box of Sugar Free/Fat free Jello
5 Scoops of Protein Powder
Pumpkin Pie Spice (added to taste)

Put one tub of Cool Whip in a bowl with the rest of the ingredients and mix for a good 5 minutes. Divide into 5 containers, and then Add a 1/4 cup or so of whip top on each.

These are loaded with fiber and protein, and not much sugar. Plus they ALMOST taste like a pumpkin pie. Excellent mid-meal snack.

Ooh... Pumkininny! That sounds intriguing, I'll have to try to it. What flavor of Jello do you use?

Here's another good dessert to try: mix up a couple ounces of ricotta cheese with some splenda and grated lemon peel. Really tasty and high in protein.

I think this diet works in that it builds muscle while at the same time burning fat by doing cardio. In essence, your cardio becomes more effective as you build more muscle mass. Any experts out there?

Good JOB, man! And best of luck!

Buy yourself a scale that takes your body fat % (you can get a good one for a good price at Bed Bath and Beyond). It's good that you're using your waist measurement as a guide, because you can't go by your weight. You're putting on body muscle as you lose fat, so it's deceptive and can shake your determination and frustrate you a little.

Give yourself time for the 6 pack. AT LEAST 6 months, and probably closer to a year. The inital weight will drop off quickly, but that weight around your middle (the last little roll) will be a stubborn bugger because it's been there the longest. Your body won't want to lose it.

Remember CARDIO and DIET. Eat every three hours. Don't do anything gimmicky (like no carbs or all protein, etc) and do VARIABLE RATE cardio (fast, then slow, then fast). It shocks the system and makes you lose more fat, more quickly. But only do that after you can maintain a heart beat of between 135 and 150 for at LEAST 30 minutes continuous.

I have always been in good shape, but I let myself go and in December I weighed 207 with 24% bodyfat. ****ED ME OFF when I looked in the mirror and had a big ol' belly. So I got back on the horse and now I'm back down to 177lbs and 9% bodyfat.

Keep us informed of your progress and post the pictures of before and after once you get there!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Well, muscle mass is what burns fat, so the more dense muscle mass you have, the more fat you burn when you're sedentary. In other words, if you lift weights and build muscle mass, then you'll burn more fat when you're sleeping or when you're watching the Sooners win another national championship.

That's why you never want to JUST do cardio. Plus the weight lifting helps injury proof you when you are doing cardio.

If you add around 10lbs of dense muscle mass you'll burn an extra 1000 calories throughout the day doing absolutely NOTHING...and you'll burn even more when you work out.

Crap, Doleo. I don't recall you being heavy enough to warrant losing 80 pounds. I'm a fat fattie, and even I don't need to lose 80 pounds. You either gained a bunch of weight after I saw you last, or you hid your weight REALLY well.

My weight battle:

When I went to MEPS, I weighed in at 117 pounds. The weight bracket for a female standing at 5'5 is 114-165. So my AF guy told me to go on a cheeseburger/milkshake diet. Which I had no problems with doing.

After going on an onion ring diet from sonic once a day for about a week and a half, I finally weighed back in at 127.7. But at this point, my size 0 pants were very difficult to fit into, and I realized I dont have the money to buy new pants. So I had to quit trying to gain weight. Now I seem to sit at about 121. I think its from all pt I have been doing, though.

Awesome job on sticking with the diet, both you guys.

Melo, I think almost every woman on this site is rolling her eyes at your weight "problems". ;) Truthfully, I know it can be hard to put on good weight for some people. Don't let it get you down, and keep up the good work!

Day 84 for Sunday. I spent 3 hours riding horses down in Gore, so I didn't get a picture until Monday.

My energy level and my confidence has sky rocketed, and I plan to keep this lifestyle because it's now a habit. I've not been perfect at it, but I've still seen amazing results. I'll put some pictures up, but I'm really looking forward to a year from now when I've been doing this for over 400 days. Those pictures will be awesome as well.
Here's me at the beginning.

If you had these pictures blown up you could see a huge difference in my face. Also look at the same belt used in both pictures. That speaks volumes. Thanks for all the motivation guys. I'll post more pictures each month. It helps me keep accountable.

Here's how you cheat to make yourself look smaller. Photograph yourself next to something bigger than you.
