I usually try to get to Bonnaroo, but the lineup just doesn't excite me much this year. I saw PJ in Lubbock at a place built for hoops and not sound, grew up going to Metallica shows, and Bonnaroo has finally succeeded in making it just too eclectic and not enough draw for hippie/jam band folk like me.

So, instead of Bonnaroo in June (http://bonnaroo.com/), Mrs. Rogue, my sis from Noble, OK, our friends, and I are going to go to Rothbury in July (http://rothburyfestival.com/stay_informed.php). I think we're finally going to try VIP tickets. Not the $1400/person cabin and hot tub version, but the $475 good-seats-to-the-show all weekend version. :D

We got to see DMB 4 times last year and Rothbury is really full of some of the music we like. Meanwhile, we get to see some great acts at The Orange Peel Social Aid and Pleasure Club in Asheville (http://www.theorangepeel.net/) like Rusted Root.

What are you going to see this year?

GHP and I had considered going to bonnaroo if Flight of the Conchords was playing. But they are not. :(

PJ, Death Cab, Sigur Ros, Iron and Wine, Tablib Kweli, Jose Gonzalez, plus David Cross and Zach Gallifianakis

Wouldn't mind seeing them.

Meh. I've seen PJ twice, and I'd be OK with never seeing them again.

Bonnaroo is about the most eclectic lineup that I've seen there. Willie Nelson? Little Feat? LITTLE FEAT??!?! I've actually seen both of them and enjoyed them immensely. But... ...weird. I've seen a number of the those bands, and that is an interesting/OK lineup, for sure, but not necessarly a GREAT one.

Of the bands that I'd like to see but haven't, they'd be headed up by: MMJ, DCFC, Kanye West, Iron and Wine, Ladytron, and the Avett Brothers. I am SO just kidding about Kanye West. I'll be seeing MMJ a few days after that, so I'm not to worried about missing them at Bonnaroo. And you're right; that's really not the most exciting festival lineup at Bonnaroo compared to previous years.

That other festival is interesting. I've seen DMB and John Mayer (meh on both, sorry). I was surprisingly a bit disappointed by Modest Mouse, because I love them. I can't believe that I still haven't seen Thievery Corporation. I highly recommend seeing the Black Keys. I'd also suggest the Crystal Method. And Taj Mahal.

I hope there's lots of folks like BRJ that saw DMB and John Mayer once and don't like them. DMB is never the same show twice and varies from "meh" to "wow." One of these days we hope to catch Dave and Tim. Somehow, without trying we always manage to see Warren Haynes once a year so Rothbury will get that out of the way.

I appreciate the tips on bands to see. If you haven't caught YMSB live, it's better than you probably expect. They draw fun people.

Gomez is really good. I'm stoked to see Derek Trucks.

Last year was a great time. This year should be as well. I wish Todd Snider was going to be there again this year.
