to put my dog down. :(

He's been my friend for 9 years. He used to lay on my feet all the time and once he napped on my chest (when he was a puppy).
He's somehow developed lung cancer and we were told in November he would only last a few weeks. He's lost a lot of weight and isn't really eating anything now. He can't hold his urine anymore. I don't think he's in pain, but he's moving a little slower these days. It's time. I'm sad.

Sorry to hear that, Doc.

Radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer in humans - don't know if it also applies to critters, but you may want to check you home - very inexpensive test.....

Lost a Boston Terrier who lived with us for 15 years.

Losing a good dog is some times a larger challenge than losing a loved one. Dadgum.

I'll be thinking of you.

All the condolences in the world. I did it a month ago with mine (12 years old and his kidneys gave out). It does give me comfort that Hannibal is in Heaven now, back to his old self, and waiting for the time we'll be back together. I'll pray for you, your family, and your dog.

You OK, Doc? Seriously, losing my last dog was more difficult than losing my mother.

OK, that probably wasn't a good thing to say, but the truth hurts at times. (yes, I loved my mom... it was just an expected deal and my dog's death just kind of hit out of nowhere)

So sorry Doc. I am an animal lover too. I have dogs, cats, fish and lizards. I have had five dogs die from old age. It breaks my heart every time. When I go to the vet with a new puppy he says to them "you are going to live a very long life living with this lady!" I keep thinking I will never get another one, but the joy they bring makes the sadness at the end all worth it. I wouldn't trade the time with my dogs for anything in the world. Keep the wonderful moments with your pal in your heart forever Doc!!

Damn man, I'm sorry. Had to put my beloved German Shepherd down in October. Still grieving some for my friend. I found this, might have come from someone on here when I needed it:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
