:(

Ted, the younger cat, broke a back claw off last week. Don't know how he did it, but it's completely gone-all that's left is the knuckle, which is gross and apparently pretty painful.

Anyhow, since it seemed to be hurting him more as the week wore on, I took him to the vet yesterday afternoon. For the next week I have to put ointment on his knuckle and feed him antibiotics twice a day.

Yeah. I'm cut to ribbons now.

Don't mind me, I'll just sit in the corner and bleed. Anyone have a good suggestion on how to calm the cat down to give him his meds? I'm about this close to trying a hammer.

Why not just get a falconeer's arm sleeve for protection.

Cats have knuckles?

The nail isn't necessary for a good stew.

Good point. The little bastard weighs 16 pounds-there's some good eatin' on him.

Cats have knuckles?

Yes. The knuckle is what the claw attaches to, and it's what they cut off when they declaw a cat.

are they pills or liquid. My cat likes to rip me to shred if it is a pill, but she is much better if it's a liquid. I basically sit on her so she can't move and make her take her medicine.

It's a liquid-I just fill up the syringe and shoot it in his mouth. The big struggle is putting on the ointment, 'cause he REALLY doesn't want me touching that foot.

a couple of bourbon and cokes should do the trick

try wrapping him in a towel first . you'll have to sneak up when he figures out your game, but it takes away his squirminess, which is really what makes giving them any medication hard.

You know, I guess I didn't realize how big Ted was getting. He's the little one, and hes 16 flippin' pounds. I need to put Steve on a scale one of these days.

I don't have cats. I have Ottomans.

Yeah! Easy to come by. I'm sure I saw a whole rack o' doze at WallyMart just the other day.
I think they were on sale! (Made in Upper Pakkawackistan, though, by enslaved children of blind prostytoots. Sad.)
Or maybe I saw them next to the microwave burritos at Ah Pu's convenience store.

Mike, my suggestion is either grab some heavy gloves like for use outdoors or keep a pair of welding gloves handy...dem big cats shred the **** out of me when we had ours.

Now we have a dog, life is much simpler now. :D

Those are nice and fluffy. I can see why everyone needs one of those!
