At least the truck race was completed on Saturday. Kyle Busch will end up winning more races than the person that replaced him at Hendrick, IMO.

Still raining Sunday morning. Sprint Cup at 3pm then rain-delayed Nationwide after that.

Long race day!

Whet
2/24/2008, 07:46 PM
Race started, after two yellows, was red flagged cause of wreckage and water seeps.

Jr. involved in 2nd wreck - his teammate spun, hit the wall, came down the track, collected Jr.

Jr. is not going to win this race! His past 3 Cali races ended with DNF - could be 4th in a role after this evening.

Whet
2/24/2008, 07:48 PM
The 2nd yellow flag wreck was pretty exciting.. After Mears collected Jr, Mears slammed into the wall again, then was smacked in the rear by former open-wheeler, IRL champion, Sam Hornish Jr, turning Mears car over, then with both drivers still in their cars, Hornish's car caught fire.

But, all drivers were released from the medical center.

They got in 21 laps before the red flag. Greatest problem is the groundwater seepage onto turn 3. They installed well points to try to pump down the water level to reduce the seepage.

Even if they do, they'll only run till lap 251.

Might as well have made today's race a 50 lap sprint. Old car, CORN can, it doesn't matter.

Today was a case of one team hitting it's setup right on and the rest of the cars playing follow the leader.

*snore*

But at least Sprint worked out the kinks in it's Sprint Cup Mobile app enough for me to listen to Jeff Gordon and Steve Letarte as well as the radio broadcast of the race.

I think Tony went a bit overboard with the tire thing. I thought the whole thing about the new cars was to make the drivers have to drive more. They've gotten too comfortable in the older cars.

I think Tony went a bit overboard with the tire thing. I thought the whole thing about the new cars was to make the drivers have to drive more. They've gotten too comfortable in the older cars.

It's one thing to put the onus on the drivers more. Quite another when you waste an entire pre-season testing session by announcing the week before the Atlanta race that you're using a tire with a much harder compound, that makes it impossible for side by side racing to occur in the corners because the drivers are so afraid they'll either take themselves out or the car they're racing with.

Sure, Tony might have gone overboard a bit. But I'd to think he has a point when just about every other name driver like Junior, Dale Jarrett, and Jeff Gordon echo his sentiments.

dw17
3/14/2008, 05:08 PM
I see what you're saying but the same people who do well always were still up front. Except for JJ, who knows what happened there.

I just meant that if it was so horrible as Tony was saying then why did he finish second? Yes, the tire was a pain but to listen to Tony, Goodyear needs to shut down operations. He was totally showing his Hoosier dirt track bias. Gordon and Jr, etc, talked bad about the tires just not in a mega doom and gloom way like Stewart.

And what I meant by the comfortable thing, who did the best? The one who drives and slings the car around like a maniac, Busch. It's like the new car/tire combos are playing into his hands, and he already had a lot of talent without that.

That being said, I liked it when Hoosier was around. It was kind of a cool time.

Martinsville, Texas, Phoenix and then WOO HOO!!! my fav track...DEGA BABY!!

Martinsville-Jeff Gordon, winning Hendricks first race this year.
Texas-Edwards,JJ,or Stewart...tough call here.
Phoenix-either Burton(a master at this track)or Harvick.

Dega-Junior, by a f'n mile...going away.

No kidding. Kind of an easy choice, though: Gordon at Martinsville. :D

Anymore Martinsville is getting to be more fun than Bristol. And the more they talk about it, the more I want to try a famous Martinsville Hot Dog.

I would go quickly, ISC is taking a hard look at the past 3 years attendance and is evaluating the tracks keeping a date.
I would not expect anything soon but with Kentucky Speedways lawsuit...they might just end up with a date in a few years.

A date back at the Rock would be great but thats pretty far flung, Pocono could dissapear from the schedule and it would not hurt my feelings..the racing sucks...long and boring..no improvements have been done since the mid '90s. Explain to me why it keeps a date?

dw17
4/1/2008, 12:13 AM
Surely not. I can't see NASCAR giving in to Kentucky.

Pocono has that oddness of the shape plus them wanting to keep something in that area. Although I guess there is New Hampshire somewhat close. A better question is why do they have two dates. I could see someday Martinsville getting one date taken away but not two.

GrapevineSooner
4/4/2008, 09:36 PM
What dw said.

Location, location, location.

If it was truly about the racing at Pocono, they'd have lost at least one date by now.
